I would even like to see it a tad darker, but then I like dark and really like a strong contrast with lighting when it works for an images theme, your expression and pose along with your placement in the image really works and makes for a strong image.

for the darker bit, I meant in the original shooting of the image, not post processing

I see what you are talking about but one thing I learned is when you shoot too underexposed, noise becomes a big problem.
I also think that you are thinking of a more focused light where the surroundings are darker and the subject has more of the direct light. Am I right?

yes that is what I am thinking, though with the focused light so that half the face is still dark (of course I have never worked with lighting as I use all natural light, so I have no idea if that is even possible. One of these days I'd love to play around with lighting)

Hmmm... At that location, that isnt possible. In order to do that you would need some supplementary lighting to make the other relatively darker for that to work there. It is possible to do that with natural light though...
I think things like that are best suited for studio work when the light can be controlled in my opinion, mainly because the background is of little consequence if it is to be so dark as to not make up a significant part of the picture. Thats my opinion though...

I really like the image, all these thoughts on lighting were just what flitted through my mind - my brain is always running a zillion miles an hour. Everything I see,hear, touch, smell etc. sparks a train or more of thought.

I love how you seem to use darkness and shadows to convey emotion and add depth to your photos. I think this is my new favorite. It is very thought provoking, and brings to mind a variety of things.

Damn! I love this one! The shadows are excellent - I love how you seem to materialize out of the shadows. Seeing your right eye clearly and nothing of your left eye is rather disturbing because the left side of your face seems to be gone, dissolved into the shadows. It makes you wonder if that side of the face would be horribly scarred if we saw it emerge into the light...
