I've been a bit stuck on the other Guardian's Nightmares so I decided to do another Toothiana. This is a melding of the movie and book versions. I really enjoy both designs.Seriously, if you have not read the books go do it! Guardians of Childhood books are really freakin' good, I loved them more than the movie.

The main "problem" of kiddie books is that they're way shorter than the books we are used to. We expect more depth and more details, while children don't have patience for that (so they find adult literature boring). As I've been reading the first book I noticed that it was clearly intended for reading to kids aloud, which goes at much slower pace than an adult mind devouring the pages. I made a mental note about it in case I ever write a book.
I like this lady. She's exotic and not too humanlike, that's quite unexpected for a fairy, in a good way. Seems like there's no wimpy characters in the books (not that I know of), even the ladies are courageous, and that's the right message for little girls nowadays.

It is nice to read a story that is somewhat short and not too bogged down with over analytical descriptions. Sometimes I think people try way to hard to get deeper meanings out of every single word in a book, especially the classics.
I do like how much more intimidating Pitchiner is in the books. Although this is written for kids the author did not tone it down, there are intense moments and fighting! This is one of the few stories were I really like all the characters, both good and bad.

I appreciate the books and the movie separately for what they are, but I agree: book-Tooth is hard-core. I mean, with a backstory like that and a temper that we don't really see in the movie (despite how much I love the moment she socks Pitch in the teeth), yeah, she's downright cool in the books.

There are 5 books in total: The Man in the Moon, The Sandman, (first 2 are fully illustrated with color) Nicholas St. North, E. Aster Bunny, and Toothiana (last 3 are often sold together in a box set)

Argh, damn it Dreamworks what the hell! You know after I finished all of Joyce's books I started to dislike the movie more and more. It is still a really cute movie but the books are so creative and emotional. The movie just seems shallow now by comparison.
