Description
Light Yagami and L from anime Death Note.I haven't watched Death Note for a while, but listening to 'Kodoku' track from OST made me feel like painting it. After all they have together gone through I hoped Kira would abandon his plan, but yet again 'the winner takes it all, the loser standing small'. Speedpaint, no yaoi intention here.

I absolutely don't mind using references for drawing pictures, but on this picture is too obvious, what you used ref picture with two persons wearing very high heels

You did this PERFECT! The light aura around Light and the way he condescendingly looks down on L feigning concern for him, moments before the final moments of the great detective. Even the way both of them sit, this is AMAZING!

After all they went through together, there could never have been any other outcome than what happened. They were in too far to do anything else but take each other down.

I'm familiar with the series and I understand the 'fan' aspect of it that often blinds people...but it took me by surprise when I saw it among the other DDs as it seemed out of place (not so much because it was fanart, mainly because of the piece itself). I also understand that it's a nearly 2 year old speed paint and that many artists can improve greatly in that space of time (and seeing from your gallery you have). I'm no professional artist so I'm in no way superior or in a position to criticise, but there are many things I see in this piece that don't work, like basic anatomy, composition and perspective.
Congrats anyway, maybe the person who featured this saw something that I didn't. Keep improving

I quite agree. It is a lovely piece, but there is a lot that looks out of place or awkward. I really don't think it deserves a DD. Again, I am not trying to be mean, just expressing my opinion

Yeah, I think that's the main issue, but a lot of people don't know how to word it so that it's not offensive to the artist, they probably didn't have much of a say on the matter when their piece got featured :/

I don't think DD's are always about quality, but sometimes just pure effort, and I see a lot went into this.
(Sometimes DD's don't need either but we won't get into that...)

Many artists put a lot into their work and they never get a DD, but at least they get the basics down. My point was never about the quality either. I think an artist would want to be recognized by their accomplishment (whether in composition, use of colour, execution, creativity etc) and not just for an effort that is overwhelmed by the flaws in those areas.
If it were me, I would prefer to improve and get a DD, than to have one of my least deserving pieces featured and be criticised (or even recognized) for it. That's my personal opinion anyway

No I agree!! I was just saying the effort is probably what got it a deviation. I agree that if I had work published I'd like it to be my best and more recent. And I see the flaws in this too. I wasn't arguing that hehe
