These brushes are for Photoshop CS2 and newer, and should work in GIMP.
They will not work in SAI, MangaStudio, or other programs that do not recognize the ABR format.

Image Pack Available at Nagareboshi.org

---------------
These are high-resolution brushes, though a bit smaller in size than normally. They're meant for panel effects and general prettiness.

I feel like this set is a little ADHD, as it really jumps around in what's there. I think this might be the last entry in the "Shoujo" brush sets.

(For the other two, please see:
)

I may release some of the base elements as an image set in scraps... I'll link it here if/when I do that.

TESTED AND ALSO WORKS WITH:
Gimp 2.6 (Linux), GIMP 2.8 (Windows)
Photoshop CS2 (Windows)

Will this ever be able to be use in SAI? Or maybe Paint.Net?

For other photoshop brushes, you can always use programs like abrViewer.NET or abrMate to convert them into image packs.

I am not sure about Paint.net. SAI will not work. It does not support the Photoshop Brush format.
I can make an image pack if you want it.

hi.. uhm.. i'm new with this kind of stuffs, so..can I ask if this works with paint tool sai? sorry and thanks

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

kabocha In reply to IK-chan [2013-03-18 01:04:01 +0000 UTC]

Nope. SAI handles brushes completely differently.
Try using GIMP! They work with that.

do you think these might work in gimp?

kabocha In reply to OTAKUxGIRL [2013-03-17 16:29:55 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure. Give it a try, and please let me know the results.
If they don't, I can set up an imagepack for them.

OTAKUxGIRL In reply to kabocha [2013-03-17 18:20:41 +0000 UTC]

okay well i did try them and unfortunately they don't work. i hope this isn't asking for much but if you are able to make a .zip file for .gbr brushes then that would be great!

kabocha In reply to OTAKUxGIRL [2013-03-17 19:38:54 +0000 UTC]

[link] Here's the image pack.

When using GIMP, make sure you're using a recent version of the software. Anything below GIMP 2.4 won't work. I just tried the brush set on Linux in GIMP 2.6 -- you have to first put them in the brushes folder and then reload the brush palette. Then, they'll show up and be usable.

oh maple syrup thanks so much! i hope it wasn't a bother to you for making this. b-by any chance...have you done this with the other brushes you made?

kabocha In reply to OTAKUxGIRL [2013-03-17 20:35:42 +0000 UTC]

Not really, no... But which version of GIMP are you using? I wonder if there's a solution to be had there.

OTAKUxGIRL In reply to kabocha [2013-03-17 23:48:36 +0000 UTC]

oh okay well i use gimp 2.8 (i think it's the latest ver)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

kabocha In reply to OTAKUxGIRL [2013-03-17 23:53:00 +0000 UTC]

OK. And you're adding the brush to:
C:\Users\{user account}\.gimp-2.8\brushes ? (I'm assuming you use Windows...)

I think you may need to check your GIMP installation.

I installed GIMP to check the sets that weren't made in PS7, and I got them all to work in GIMP 2.8 on Windows 7.
What I did notice is that they do NOT work well with the airbrush tool, and need to be set to a size larger than 20. I don't know why GIMP uses a uniform brush size...
Anyway.

The install location for all brushes in GIMP on Windows 7 (by default) is:
%userprofile%\.gimp-2.8\brushes

(%userprofile% is a system variable for the path that goes directly to your user directory. You can just copy and paste that and put it into the path bar in Windows 7. It'll take you right there.)

Beyond that, you may want to try using a tool like ABRViewer to get the raw images of a brush... It works very well.
Of course, before you do that, you may want to ask the brush provider if they're cool with that. I'm OK with it, as long as you don't redistribute the brushes.

I made it in CS5, but there are no special effects. It should work on versions as old as CS, maybe 7.

[link] Here's an imagepack for the current brush.
You may want to consider looking into a new license for Photoshop (Upgrading to CS2, for instance)... I think the compression of the brushes differs in the CS suites, which is why they're so much smaller in newer sets...

You can find old licenses through resellers for relatively cheap. (Amazon, for instance!)
