Edit : More than 1 year after making this, I'll finally explain the symbolic meaning of this piece... (And sorry if my English is not perfect.)

First of all, the colors.
I used brown for the BG, because brown is the color of the ground, so it's gloomy because when you die you are buried in the ground. But it's a positive color too, because it is the earth, and life, plants for example, come of the earth.
The creature is white. White is the color of the purity, remember the bride. But white is the color of the death, too, like bones and corpses.

Now, the torii.
In Japanese culture, it is a sort of portal between the material world, where humans live, and the god's world. The creature is passing through it.

Then, the creature.
A dragon, or something like that. Mysterious, but a bit frightening.
The eye is gray, like it was blind. Or dead.

Finally, the title.
A shinigami, in Japanese culture, is a god of death.

In conclusion : Death.
