Description
The final product of the "Malaya's Fury" project I have been working on for over a few weeks. I realize now that I need a much faster computer if I ever want to rely on GIMP for coloring again.

Anywho, this scene comes from an upcoming game project I am working on, with Flamestrike (the one on the left) being the title character.

Story:
Malaya (right) is a cheerful, outgoing girl who lives in the farmer community of Milltown. She enjoys exploring the outskirts of the town and dueling with her waveblades, special swords with very curved blades that are held upside-down. She excels at defense and likes to fight for fun rather than out of anger or hatred. However, that changed when a massive explosion occured outside the village, powerful enough to blow right through the vast mountain range bordered between the town and the desert. A humanoid came from the explosion in a wreck, being hurled through the mountains and through Malaya's own house.

Malaya was in more shambles than her house. It was not just the house that was broken, but her dead father's precious collection of swords that she held dear were utterly annihilated.

Although on the brink of death after being catapulted through a mountain range by a semi-nuclear explosion, the man not only survived, but recovered within a couple of nights in the hospital. The man, ironically accurately dubbed "Flamestrike" by the villagers for the way he arrived, was seen as a demon by most for having lived through such a disaster. None saw him more as such than Malaya, who sought a vengeful duel immediately after his recovery.

Art:
This is basically two burn renders stacked onto each other, one for the background and one for the characters. Because of drawing them separately like that, I completely messed up the perspective of the background in correlation to the fighters.

However, I did fix a few things in light of some critique I got last time, namely the glowing of the sword and its light cast on the characters. The fact that it is an energy sword that Flamestrike can create on a whim does nothing to soothe Malaya's assumption that he is a demon.

I will also never again do anything in GIMP beyond simply burning the sketches with this computer. Even with all other programs closed, it took like five minutes to create a new layer, and about ten to save it. I should have played SSBB while I drew this; I could have played a match each time I made a gradient!
