No, I don't think so. It's just a reference to a video game, where your main character becomes evil if you lose, hence corruption. Here it looks like the same situation, where Mephiles is consuming Shadow's body for his own use.

Mephiles is poscessing Shadow? His words sound tempting, but I say "Noo, Fight it Shadow, don't give in to the darkness, you have some good, some kindness in you!" It's effective how you showed his spikes turning into crystals, it looks like their growing out of his skin. I like the expression, he looks a little vunurable and drunk with power. I like the background, it looks like a swirling gas, or the essence of a dark soul.
I'm not sure about the pose, he looks a little too stiff to be floating, and too unbalanced to be floating upright. I think his right leg is too short, and his left arm is a little long, even accounting for the angle. (his hand would still reach his knee, rather than the top of his thigh.) The curve in the red marking on his top spike looks a little odd. I think usually it's almost like a long teardrop shape, round and widest on his forehead then slowly getting thinner towards the tip of his spike.
