Description Specialized seaplane adaptation of the Spitfire Mk. V with the Rolls-Royce Merlin 61 12-cylinder inline engine, a four-bladed propeller, and a pair of floats almost 8 meters long.

Originally for use against German supply convoys, W3760 first flew in October 1942, and was later strengthened by two more conversions, EP751 and EP754. Intended for use in hidden bases scattered in the Dodecanese Islands, it later operated from the Great Bitter Lake within the Suez Canal after no other role can be used for them following the islands' capture by the Germans.

Specifications for the conversion included a maximum speed of 324 mph (521 km/h) at 19,500 ft (521 km/h at 5,943 m), a maximum rate of climb of 2,450 ft/min at 15,500 ft (12.45 m/s at 4,724 m) and an estimated service ceiling of 33,400 ft (10,180 m).
