Description Friends and I are planning on starting up our D&D campaign again. Started writing up documentation for my race, which I figured should include some sketches,

So I drew up this in SAI, with the intent of aping the style of the 3rd edition Dungeons & Dragons player's manual race selection. It's not an exact fit, but whatever.

Not actually pencil work, though. It's done with a tablet, mostly because it's a little cleaner and more readily available (haven't scanned a piece of paper in years).

Ah, my mistake. Still looks fantastic though.

Which of the races did you base this on? I realise that the choices of species for a standard D&D campaign are kinda limited (humans/elves/orks/dwarves/etc.), and usually the more outlandish ones are monsters or non-roleplayable characters...

It's a little sketchy. I suppose gnomes would be the most direct replacement, as we nixed them from the game. They have a -1 STR, -1 CON, +2 DEX bonus. So they make good rogues, decent wizards/sorcerers, and poor fighters. They're considered small humanoids (dwarf height, 4 foot-ish).

You don't usually see many characters playing a banjo, that was actually something nice to give to this character. The outfit design is also quite exceptional.

Hah. It does look like a banjo... I was just going for some generic, small, stringed instrument.

Wow, the detail in this is seriously impressive. I think I like the face and legs the most.

Pretty cool. What edition?

3.5. None of us really want to make the move upwards

I don't blame you. 4th Edition has its perks, but...yeah. It's a totally different game.

Pathfinder is pretty awesome. It's basically 3.5, but evolved. They specifically designed it to be compatible with 3.5, too.

So I've heard. We all had the 3rd edition books already, however, so we stuck with it for cheapness sake, and changed what we didn't like by fudging the rules

Ah, well, Pathfinder's rules are (legally) free, which was helpful for me because most people in my group are new to table top RPGs and don't have rule books.

Did you create this race?

Kaiseto In reply to Inkweaver22 [2012-07-16 16:15:52 +0000 UTC]

Right. We came up with our own campaign setting and a few new races, nixed some old ones, etc. So this race consists of small (4-footish) humanoids with a propensity for craft and performance. Making their favored class the bard.
