what oath did she break? "Warlock" is an olde English word meaning "oathbreaker", or "traitor". king James's wytchfynders assigned this title to the male witches who would obviously be in charge of all the female ones; after all, women couldn't possibly get up to serious things without male leaders, they figured. since scaring the king was treason, obviously they were traitors... (sorry - it's one of my buttons)
