Description Cell shade for JPlotting and his dragon Azura. had sooooo much fun playing around with this one and trying out new things. most of my paintings usually have warm light and cool shadows, and it was a blast switching it up a little. I Loveee how the colors came out. More than partially thanks to Azura and her amazing color scheme

once again feel free to ask me anything about my process. i may actually post a process shot of this piece later

Oh my God, it's so pretty I have never seen detail that good in this kind of art style before it looks amazing! What made you get the skills to do this if you don't mind me asking?

thanks so much! makes my day to hear that <3 as for how i made this. this specific style is my (cell shading) style. i wanted to have a style of art that was quicker, more experimental and just more fun to make. so i came up with this style. when im making these cellshades i like to focus on one thing. i ask myself "does this look cool?" if the answers yes then well im on track. i dont worry too much about realism and focus on having nice fancy colors and attractrive lighting.

as for the technical stuff. to make this art i use a toooon of photoshops features. getting familiar with photoshop and all its tools really open up a ton of possibilities when i make art and I try not to shy away from using them to their fullest. the most common features i use to make this specific style are as follows:

Layers

Clipping masks

layer locks

adjustment layers

lasso tool

as for specific blending modes, here's what I use

multiply - for shadows

overlay - for soft direct light

linear dodge - for sharp white highlights and bounce light

color dodge - for specular highlights and color variation

soft light - more color variation

as for adjustment layers. I use these to mainly balance out my colors and sometimes fix my values. my most commonly used ones are:

color balance

Hue/saturation

levels

curves

brightness/contrast

finally I use a few filters. its worthy to mention that i apply filters last and usually have everything on one layer. with said layer as a "smart object" this allows me to erase certain parts of a filter

filters I use are

liquify

motion blur (adds directional blur)

Gaussian blur (adds blur)

hard pass (increases clarity and sharpness)

as for brushes used. i use a ton of brushes from @tsaoshins brush pack. maily the elliptical brushes and scratch brush. along with a few others. i also use some from 'Kyles brush megapack.' you can find this brush set with a quick google search.

hope this helps a little and isn't to confusing! feel free to note me with any questions

This is beautiful! ;w; I love the amphibious features seen on its head and Azura's lovely, wise eyes. How do you get that beautiful kinda over-exposed blurry shading, kind of best seen underneath the tail at the bottom of the image? That's a beautiful effect!

Looks Great!

hopefully the dragon is not that close to the ground as the picture suggests. Otherwise it looks like Azuras' tail will probably pin her wing to the ground and crash into it

AHHHH!! Just WOW! 😮 This is absolutely AMAZING! 😁 I love how her design came out! So dramatic and down right majestic! As for the technical skill... the texture! The focus! The everything! It's all soooo well done and I adore it! I'm also glad to hear her color scheme allowed you to switch things up. The results are awesome! Thank you so much for this!
