”Are you sure you want to do this alone, Wes?” Elliot looked at his brother from the drivers seat, ready to get out if Wes wished so.
”Yeah. I gotta learn to do these things alone, right?” He tried smiling, but honestly he was nervous. Would he even be taken seriously as a buyer? He was 16, prancing in with daddys money and pointing at horses 'yes dad I want that one!' - or so he at least thought he'd seem like.
Wes walked quietly towards the backfields of Fox Vale Stables, following the owner, Catherine. He was quiet, staring down at the frozen ground as they walked. What I'm doing here? He questioned himself inside his head, trying to push down the nagging voices in the back of his head, telling him this was a stupid idea. He was starting a stallion station, not a horse charity. Yet, here he was, walking towards strangely stranded paddock for a blind gelding. The horse was pretty - judging by the photo added to the info - but really. This was stupid, but just the thought of saying no now made his anxiety rise its ugly head. Finally, they arrived to the edge of the very large paddock, quite far from the farm side and the other horses.
"Why he's alone in here?" For a moment he wasn't sure he was actually saying it out loud, but the woman turned to look at him, polite expression on her face.
"He doesn't like or need the company of other horses or the noises of the farm. He's better here and we're hoping to rehome him somewhere quiet."
"I see." The young man answered curtly, leaning against the gate of the paddock. He looked to the other side of the paddock, where under the snowy trees the chestnut gelding had picked up his head and stared at them with his cloudy eyes. Wes knew the horse couldn't see him, but it felt like they were staring at each other. For a long moment, he just looked at Casimiro and the horse looked back. Not a word was said, before he straightened up and glanced at Catherine.
"May I go closer?" He sounded a little cold, his expression dropping a bit as he pulled one arm over his chest, wanting to run away from the whole situation.
"Yes, of course. He's a very calm and gentle horse, great loss for the dressage fields." She smiled, opening the gate and letting Wes in.
He sneaked in, snow crunching under his feet as he walked to the gelding, not bothering to announce his closeness; he felt that Casimiro saw (and knew) him moving closer. He smiled a bit, letting out a deep breath he had been holding in as he was in his element now. Alone, with a horse that seemed to get him in a whole different level.
"Hi, Casimiro. I'm Wes... I think we have a lot in common." He spoke softly, knowing that the horse would hear him even if he'd whisper and Catherine would not. The gelding didn't answer, only stared at him with his ears glued up and towards him, listening closely to every step. When Wes got half a meter away, he stopped and reached out his hand, sighing. How do you tell a horse you know how it feels? He glanced back at Catherine, quickly turning back to Casimiro.
"I hate it when there's someone looking. I feel like I'm being judged on how much we like each other, and I shouldn't even like you so much. I'm used to angry, big thoroughbreds that change direction on top of a coin. You're nothing like that. You're a quiet, calm gelding who just likes to be left alone. You can't even see how pretty you are, huh." He smiled when Casimiro reached out to sniff his hand, pushing him gently with his muzzle. Wes took it as a sign of acceptance, moving his hand down the side and on to the cheek, stepping closer to Casimiro.
"You know, we have a lot in common. I don't like people, at all. I get anxiety attacks and might even black out, I heard you don't like other horses. Maybe we can like each other?" He pet the geldins big cheek, looking into the cloudy eyes and feeling a little more confident around the horse. Casimiro was the exact opposite of his old favourite horse, Crucified. However, Wes didn't mind all that much. Casimiro had kind, wise eyes and he liked the calm feeling around them. It was almost like they were all alone, there was just crisp morning air turning his cheeks rosy red and his hand against the warm, fuzzy cheek of Casimiro. Wes felt that it was enough for Casimiro, too. He knew the farm had an old paddock that was meant for broodmares, with some wooden areas fenced in and it would be perfect.
"I see you're making friends there." Catherines bright voice broke Wes' thoughts about a paddock for Casimiro. He nodded curtly, patting Casimiros neck before turning towards Catherine.
"I... Here is my bid for him. He's a very nice gelding." Wes smiled and started walking away, glancing over his shoulder at the gelding. He was not the smart choice, but he felt like the right one.

”One more thing – I understand you also have a mare for sale? May I see her?” The boy looked at the owner, a little more relaxed around her. His hand felt warm from touching Casimiro and he had to bit his lip not to give a weird smile to Catherine.
”Yes, we are showing her to potential buyers in the indoor arena. Come, follow me...” She said, walking in a swift pace towards the arena.
