I completely agree. My friends tried to explain this to me. All that did was make me dislike religion more. Committing suicide sends you to hell because you are going against God because he created you (something like that). Wouldn't a murderer be doing the same thing just with other people instead of themselves?

Hey, first things first, I'm not at all in any way trying to offend you. As a Roman Catholic, (don't know about all the other branches) this is how it goes. In all due reality, the belief of this relies on true repentance.
SO, there's one guy who starts up a school shooting and kills people and later says, "SO what, I'm not going to hell, I can just say a little 'sorry' if I want on my deathbed!" THey won't be truly and absolutely forgiven because their repentance isn't real.
But then there's another guy who got assaulted by a gang in an alleyway and happens to have a pocket knife with him. Things happen to get out of hand and the guy kills two and injures two. When everything calms down and he realizes that he killed people, he starts crying and begging for forgiveness, whatever way it may be, even thoroughly accepting his penance the judge gave him in jail. In such case, he is truly repented and wishes to take it back and is forgiven.
Just wanted to leave things clear No hard feelings?

Ah, that's actually a crossing point between the Roman Catholic Doctrine and other Christian Doctrines. According to Catholicism he would go to heaven if he honestly regretted that, on one condition- The Purgatory. Basically it's similar to Hell but in the sense of purification instead. He will stay there until he pays for the last of his sins and eventually goes to Heaven. Except, the Purgatory may even last until the end of the world, so it's not really an easy way out.
I'm not meaning to offend or anything, just explain.

"Murder is okay if you regret it!"
It's still a horrible thing.

The regretting part only proves you're not a psychopath.
