Description
Here's Saeko from High School of The Dead. Since I started to read the manga long time ago, I always wanted to draw her. She's my favourite character. Then, the anime aired and I thought that it was the best time to do it.I have a lot of problems making backgrounds. I think that I should make custom brushes, but it is not easy to get the "feeling" that I am looking for. My first goal is always to make it natural and not digital but that's not enough to me. I want to have the same "touch" than anime's backgrounds. Someday I hope to make it!

otherwise i would have colored my saeko instead of shade her. oh well i guess traditional is more my thing :/ lol

Thanks! Traditional is good! the result is much better than CG to my opinion. I feel that I should start using watercolours of something like to to learn making backgrounds. But I don't have to courage to learn it

i think that way too but i like to make a character like draw them, (fan art or original, doesn't matter) then scan it and color it so i have both i just don't upload the colored ones becuase they are not good and i'd prefer not too lol xD
i am terrible at painting on the computer as well as in real life -_- i was never able to control my left hand with a paint brush :/
also same goes with me for bg lol i can't draw them unless they are reallly simplistic x3 like yuu think yours are bad??? i think yours are like professional lol in order for me to draw it they have to b like kindergarten simple -__-

At first I had problems with my hand too. But the best trick that I discovered is to forget about it. It come with time (I am talking about cg, I don't know a lot about real brushes). In cg, it is hard to draw perfect lines, but I discovered that they must NOT be perfect, otherwise it shows too much that it is done in CG. If you look at pro illustrations, you will notice that most of them don't draw perfect lines too.
I don't dislike my backgrounds, but I can't draw them the way I want... I still lack so much things. I want to be able to draw like in anime, which I think, is quite hard. People don't seems to notice them but, anime backgrounds are often extremely detailed and the colours are really well chosen.
I will look at tour works when you will put them!

oh ohkay i'm gonna try and learn how to do computer art i even got this thing called paint.NET since i don't have photoshop :/
and i know watcha mean about anime backgrounds they are highly ddetailed lol especially in animes like highschool of the dead, death note, i think code geass, etc.

HOTD backgrounds are indeed really interesting. They are made by Kusanagi which also have artbooks of their anime backgrounds, and I own them all

Yuhki Kamatani - drew characters for Nabari No Ou
i find artbooks everywhere online but i can never find examples, or preview pages... so i'm reluctant to buy them since i don't want to judge the art books by cover only :/

There is not just books, there is also dvd and things like that so, if you want to order something, look well before. Also, you can get them elsewhere (amazon.co.jp or other online stores)
Like I said, it is only for backgrounds, there is no characters in these books. But if you like backgrounds, you won't be disappointed.
I don't know about Yuhki Kamatani , but I am not sure if Satou Shouji did an artbook yet. Anyway, if you think you found one, I would like to know it, maybe I would buy it too!
