Description Another chalk try-out, but I prefer how Oldschool Link turn out. Might be trying another chalk thingie with Young Link later on.

Young Link is one of my favorite Links.

'Tis weird. Can't figure out why I love the Legend of Zelda.

-I consider it a mainstream game. (I usually hide from stuff with that much popularity. Only reason I want to try FF7, another highly popular game, is because a bud made me curious.)

-Its hero is often blond. He's also a pointy-eared guy. (That usually turns me off. Blame the overuse of ''elves'' in my surroundings. Also, I prefer darker types of men.)

-We often have to save, or help, a princess. (I kinda dislike the idea of monarchy.)

-Save the girl. (I usually go: screw the girl!)

-In terms of gameplay: puzzles and dungeons! I easily give up on those things.

-Chosen one against black, evil magical... evil one. (Mention ''chosen one'' and ''dark ruler'' on the back cover of your book and be sure I won't be reading it.)

-Some other stuff that comes with best-selling Fantasy stories.

-And finally:
It always revolves around a young boy, most of the time not even in his teens, who has the power to save the world.

If you know me, I always complain about how ''kids'', in reality helpless and truthfully physically weaker than adults, end up saving the world while no competent adult can in the morning ''anime'' I try watching out of boredom.

But...

All those things I hate about other stories,
I LOVE about Legend of Zelda.

That includes how I won't mind if the next Link is ten years old. I just want to hug young Link. <3
Don't care if we have to save Zelda.
Besides, I like Zelda! I'll save her everytime we need to no sweat!
Blond, adult Link is the most handsome piece of character design I've seen in my life.
(Farore knows how to choose her heros.)
LOVE those pointy ears on him.
LOVE Ganondorf's black arts and evilness.

Don't know why I love the games, but I very much do.
Don't know why I care about young Link, but he's about the only fictional character I want to hug. (Along with Wind Waker Link, though for different reasons. Young Link needs a hug. D: WW Link is just cute XD )

This young link portrait is much better than mine. The colouring is wonderful! How did you colour it? As for the lineart, i've noticed that yours is more sketched than mine and has more lines.

It is strange, isn't it? I tend to dislike cliche immensely as well. ;

But I think part of why I adore Zelda is that it is deceptively simple- it uses very familiar elements to construct an extraordinarily deep story full of absolutely lovable characters- a story that makes us deeply care about this world we are rescuing.

The familiarity makes it comfortable- if you play a lot of Zelda, you become familiar with an entire world- the progressional periods of people, places, politics, history of Hyrule. That alone is worth playing Zelda for- just to see how deep these veins run.

Zelda, more than many games, invites speculation on its elements. Therefore, part of the story itself exists fully in you.

And use one of Akira Himekawa's thoughts, the simplicity (i.e. purity/lightness) of Link's character is what makes him so compelling. These days, anti-heroes take the limelight, and Link is absolutely not that. But while he's your essentially "unflawed" character, Zelda isn't your traditional fairytale (particularly if you read stuff into it as I do. - there is a complexity that develops him in his parable about inner light and inner darkness. It's nice. ^^

Exactly! Boy am I glad you wrote this!
I do feel really close to some characters (Link of course, but also some races, like the Kokiri), and most of them aren't even fully explored. The small details they give are fascinating to analyse.
Majora's Mask is a game that grabbed me from the minute the mask showed on my TV, one of the reasons being how it related to Ocarina of Time. Most touching game I've played yet.

I really do hope they don't follow the trend and make the next Link an anti-hero. We have too much of those already. We'll always need a hint of true heros.

Speaks the girls who's own characters are filled with flaws since she hates perfection.
*Hugs Link plush*
If I had played Zelda as a kid however, I would've told my teachers my role-model is Link. But I'm all grown-up, and I've taken pride -all my life- in saying I have NO role-model.
Nuff said.

Yes, grown girl with plushies. It's either that or breaking things. XD *Swings practice sword*

Ha, I would be pissed if they made Link an anti-hero. That's totally defying his character. They came a little closer trying to make TP "dark"- I just hope they never go the whole hog.

Lol, I'm pretty sure I have the same plushie as you. XD

Yup!
I see TP Link as an example on how OoT Link -could've- turned out if he had to live through growing up like any other Hylian kid. I believe he was put to sleep for seven years not only for him to grow more powerful while staying safe, but also to preserve his innocence.
TP Link was saved by the innocence he still had inside, even though he was closer to his dark side than any other Link before him.

Ooh, my plushie! Took a picture of him for my profile. To think I almost decided not to play WW... (wanted Zelda just because of Epona). Glad I decided to play them all!

(Lol, old... XD)

I totally agree with all of the above statements. XD That's a factor most don't consider- that Link might wake up with the body of a man and the mind of a child. XD A strange existance that would be- certainly very conflicted, what with hormones and all. XD I wonder if that's why fate placed him in a land without adults, too... ;

Wheras, TP Link grew up in a very peaceful place, full of children as well, and fighting was only a hobby- a distant thing. Heck, he grew up a big kid, essentially, though I suppose he had the additional pressure of being a role model for the kiddos, and being nudged towards Ilia. All and all, they made his character a bit more complex is all. XD The basics are very much the same.

Yeah, we have the same plushie. XD Got mine at a teeny-tiny Kansas anime festival. ;
