Chapter II: Switzerland, 2005

The nurse looking at my serum seemed troubled. Darkness embraces me, light blinds me.

The door opens suddenly and all the doctors in charge of this region of the hospital enter my room. I don’t even know where I am. On a bed next to mine, everyone looks at my sister, who didn’t understand a thing, no matter of the conflict being the hardest I’ve ever lived to tell. And now here, just like me, she fights for her life. Holly doesn’t seem to breath, but I know that’s she’s alive. She’s living through me, that am able to at least open and close my eyelids, even just that.

“What’s your opinion, doctor?” the nurse taking care of us asks. “Will they…” And the tougher of them ceases her from continuing.

“The results of their radiographies say that we’re gonna lose them…” he says.

“Ah…Is that so…” she says hesitantly, and then they all go.

We’re left alone.

The parents that adopted us, our mother’s sister and her husband I mean, had decided to take care of us for the rest of our lives after our parents’ death. And that, because we’ve got a rough past. Dad died when mum was about to give birth to me. Holly is the older one, but she was so shocked from what happened to dad, that her mind couldn’t take it and abandoned her. It’s what the world calls “a kid with special needs”… And then, mum died when I was born. And so, we were left to Artemis’ hands.

But…Thanks to the collision…It was raining hard, and the turn had no warning sign…And now here…

Holly fights for her life and I am fighting for mine. We don’t have other relatives. All our dreams are gone. Holly and her breath is the only things that matter to me now. Darkness embraces me, light blinds me.

But the dream…Breathes life into me. And a figure, dark in the dream, and dark in my mind too…Everything is gone. Martina does not exist anymore. I have to make up my mind. Old Martina is never to come back again. She’s a sick, terrified creature, living thanks to the hospital. Martina is long gone.
