Steam rises from below a number of vintage railway carriages, as they are heated by their locomotive for a trip on a cold winter's day.

Up to 2002, steam was still used on trains in Belgium (although it had mostly been substituted by electric heating up to that point). However, starting from January 1st 2003, steam heating was officially prohibited from use on the Belgian Railways - the same date when the Class 51 and Class 62 diesel engines (the last locomotive with steam generators), and M2 passenger carriages (the last steam-heated railway cars of the Belgian Railways) were withdrawn from passenger service.
