Description
Remake of an old 2006 MGS doujinshi I drew way back. Some of you might even recall that wordless fail :'DThis is child soldier!Raiden (AKA Jackie-boy) and Solidus/George Sears (AKA The American) during the Liberian Civil War in 1991. The bandanna belonged to Big Boss, and The Boss prior to him.
I always found Solidus to be so very interesting, especially during his time in the Liberian Civil War, collecting child soldiers and forming an army. Keep in mind the guy was 19 years old when the war ENDED. No matter what his accelerated aging made him look like, he was still a teenager... as for Raiden, I love exploring his psyche as a kid. Fun stuff.
Doodled in two hours, because I suffer from acute insomnia. Damn you, hyperthyroidism!

Thank you! I also felt like I was his only fan when the game came out! He was my first favourite villain, though maybe that's because I played MGS2 first 
My drawing? Hmm... well, first I learned a style I liked - it was actually ~gemiange 's back in the day - and then I sort of started adding features from other styles that I liked: the nose that so-and-so drew, this particular expression, etc etc. Then I sort of got to now o_o;; Studying anatomy is always helpful, though! The muscles are fun to draw once you learn them

You're forgetting that the kid is a child soldier and Solidus is his commander. There isn't much decency to be found in a situation like that.

This comic is quite a rollercoaster of emotions to someone who knows nothing of the fandom. I had no idea where it was going to go at first so it was an eye-opener when the punches began to roll. You're so good at drawing out scenes that are just... so emotive, even when those within are being without emotion.

Rest assured the majority of the MGS canon and fandom are NOT like this, hahaha xD I tend to grapple onto the most extreme/vicious characters of each fandom and get attached to them, so I usually draw out scenes and content that would not happen in the actual game xDD;; <-- crazy

Though i found Solidus' treatment of Raiden kinda....jerkass-ish, I then remembered that his dad WAS Naked Snake. Both won't be getting the Parent of the Year award anytime soon...

Yup xDD Then again, Big Boss "never cared about any of his clones", so I figure he didn't raise any of them at all. Liquid - because he had the "dominant" genes (its said in MGS1 at the end that Liquid was actually the one with the dominant genes all along) - got to stay with Big Boss for a while, hence his inferiority complex, and grew up in the UK, while Solid got sent away to somewhere in the US. From this I deduced Solidus was probably raised harshly, same as his clone-brothers, and then sent to Africa (Liberian civil war) to see if he was good enough for anything... when he ended up raising a child army, I suppose the Patriots considered him good at moving people, and set him on the road to become a politician, lmao. Or something XDD Either way, he had a fucked up upbringing and lord knows how he managed to not get ousted from the presidency with his temper streak xDD

Oh wow! That was ... hm there're a lot of words I have but none really seem fit. I like it! I like it lots! I've always loved that part of Raiden's personality, to think what that time as a child soldier would have done to him. I like how you portrayed Solidus as well, first the fist, the ruffling his hair seems totally like something he'd do. Disturbing, yet fitting! More? ^^

I enjoy figuring out the gaps that Kojima leaves unfilled, like Raiden and Solidus' past history together.. Solidus never comes across to me as a very loving/caring parent-figure at all, indeed, he solely saved Jack from having the same fate as his parents because he wanted another child soldier...
At the same time, he wondered where the kid had gone - not any of the others, just him - after the war, and remembered him afterwards with a touch of fondness, and then proceeded to torture the heck out of him. What the hell, Solidus? XDD I figure he was similar when he was younger, just a bundle of vicious anger and then switching back to a caring persona, and back and forth
