Description
This is another inktober drawing that I wasn't too horrified with and went ahead to color. This was a maverick design I submitted to Dracula9AntiChapel 's Mega Man X Fangame Variable Zero. In the game, there will be 4 regular mavericks and 4 Wily unit mavericks (Mavericks with a Robot Master base). Stomata here is part of the latter group, having a base of a Stomatopod(Mantis Shrimp) and Crystal Man from MM5. Her design is subject to change depending on the project head.Mega Man X (c) CAPCOM

Looks pretty neat. Mavericks are much more complicated to design since you got to take other and different features into account. Nice to base her off a rather specific kind of shrimp too.

Yes, maverick designs are rather involved and even sometimes over designed imo (though I admit this is just a preference of mine) but still there are quite a number of awesome maverick designs.

She is pretty cute, I mean for a shrimp designed thing! Mavericks are so hard to get down when designing them, she came out great!

The animal is tough for me. Trying to get that mix of animal and megaman mecha in the design just right is tough as nails.Β

Between their ability to generate light and the fact that they have some of the most complex eyes of any species known, I'd say that crystal/light was a really good choice for the character. Also probably the first feminine crustacean maverick I've ever seen, which is a nice touch. Great work thinking outside the box!Β

Thanks, That is indeed what I had in mind for her. I initially wanted to make a hard hitting manits shrimp based maverick but since that slot has been filled (ie Bunker Cicada) I had to get creative.

Mantis shrimp! Love how the large tail turned into a skirt. Or is that a coattail? It's got propellers in it, that's for sure. Fashion and function! XD The antenna too! Combined with the crystals... makes her look really feminine and cute, which is quite a feat considering she doesn't have too many gender defining features.Β Really cool how you can express things with some little details.

It was a bit of both actually. Yeah, didn't want to sexualize Stomata too much, I wanted to give her a bit of elegance. Well, there are the "Boob lights" if you call it that, but they actually are hidden appendages as seen on the right pic.

Yeah, I think it's the right call. Comparing her to that bee boss in ZX Advent (since I don't know of any female mavericks in X)... I think it fits the design principle of more animalistic/alien than human properties that are prominent in the series.

They also shatter aquarium glass with their fists alone. And yaay more girly crystal.

Yup, they have the strongest punches in the world, their puches hits fast enough to generate light upon impact, which is where I based her powers on.
