[APPEARANCE]

Hair Colour: Gray
Eye Colour: Pink

A slender, small person, Talya has long accepted that she will always be the smallest among her family members- even wearing high heeled boots does nothing to solve the height issue anyways. Her flowers grow out from split ends of her hair, much to her dismay, and clump together into two large masses before branching out downwards. Chinese lantern flowers will begin as a delicate, five-lobed corolla which will eventually become a faint spidery husk that houses a small berry. Over time, the flower will turn an orange or red hue, and will become papery in its texture. The flowers close to her head remain in their skeletal lantern form, no matter what season.

The berries and seeds in her flowers glow dimly, only noticeable if you're standing in close proximity to her or illuminating dark spaces. Rather fitting for a lantern, she thinks, though gods know why it gives out light when the actual potted ones she's seen her grandmother planting in their garden never do. Dad insists it's because she has a glowing personality, though Talya begs to differ- her facial expressions are rather reserved and muted usually.

Talya finds comfort in dressing in comfortable, oversized coats- preferably ones with long bell sleeves, which she uses to flap at people's faces to get their attention sometimes. Particularly at her little brother to get him to stop flirting and embarrassing himself.

[PURPOSE]

Currently still searching for her life's purpose, as teenagers are wont to do.

She's currently researching on the many medicinal properties of various plants and flowers, particularly those not found in her biome. Plants are friends, her grandma used to say- Talya feels it's a little odd, considering the age old story of the goddess Gaia's curse upon them all. Though...continuing her grandma's research as something to honour her memory feels like the right thing to do, while still on a soul-searching journey.

   Personality:

Knowledgeable: Well-read and intelligent, Talya is what people call booksmart, particularly in the field of herbs and traditional healing methods.

Fair: Being a little eclectic herself, Talya keeps a broad view of the world and prefers to judge people on her own terms.

Independent: Being born under the sign of Aquarius, Talya is rather self-reliant and posseses a huge need to go out and make it on her own without relying on other people.

Dreamy:Perhaps too much of a dreamer, some say, her mind is often more in the clouds than in the present.

Detached: She finds it hard to let people into her heart and confidences at a certain point, and is emotionally distant from even family members and friends. Her father tells her that chinese lanterns radiate warmth and light- and she would like to be like her flower too, and is striving to change that part of herself.

Indecisive: She takes a long time to decide on anything- more prone to delaying her deliberation to find perfection, and rarely gets things done swiftly.

   History:

"If I fold a thousand paper cranes, will my wish come true?"

Talya supposes she inherited the curse from her family- or at least, the few bits and pieces she recalls of them before they died, a berry she accidentally plucked from her mother's earlobe as a child; little memories that surface every once in a while when she's daydreaming. She wonders what they were like, her actual parents- though she wouldn't trade her adoptive family for the world and beyond.

A part of her still dreams of an elusive past, however. She still hangs paper cranes on her window, simply replacing the old ones falling apart with colourful new birds every year, wishing and dreaming for her past to catch up to her.

Her adoptive grandmother, in an effort to ground her to the present, introduced Talya to her research of medicinal plants. Her research was kept in yellowing journals and written in that familiar slanted script- though when Talya was younger, she simply liked to leaf through them for the penned drawings of plants intersparsed in it instead of the heavy laden text written throughout the journal. As she grew up, she grew to like the research- more as a method of bonding with her grandmother than anything else, really, gardening and hunting for obscure plants were a pain. She only liked finding new things to please her grandmother with it, especially when she became old and bedridden, aged eyes glimmering with pleased surprise and happiness whenever Talya filled in the empty spaces of her work.

When she passed on, she bequeathed her all her research journals to her granddaughter. While Talya is still unsure what to pursue in life, her grandmother's journals gives her at least a continued sense of purpose.

And hey, while she's travelling outside to complete her research...just maybe she'll get to find out who she was, before.

[ADDITIONAL]

Extra:

♢ The fruit growing from her flower is edible, in small quantities. Leaves and unripened fruit from a chinese lantern flower are poisonous.

♢ The flowers themselves, though mainly planted for aesthetic purposes, are believed to have medicinal properties.

I prefer a mix between lit and script, but I can rp both ways!
