Description The night was cold, but in the small room they shared, the air was warm and stuffy. There were no windows; Dark wooden walls surrounded them, giving the chamber an almost claustrophobic atmosphere. The only door led to a long corridor. The furniture consisted of two old, ragged futons. Hidan sighed. A typical place only Kakuzu would rent. Said miser had chosen the futon closer to the door and so he had at least the small comfort of an end-to-end wall in his back, far better than the interruption of the door. Noticing this thought, he shook his head and grinned. Living and travelling with Kakuzu he learned to appreciate the very small joys of life.

After his routine prayer to Jashin he slumped down on the mattress that barely padded the flooring. He was about to doze off as he felt a strange warmth behind him. Hot, moist breath tickled on his neck and then there was this warm, calloused hand that hesitantly stroked his shoulder.

"This makes it kinda hard to sleep, doesn't it?" He gave his voice a mocking undertone.

"Hmhm… But it feels too good not to do it." Kakuzu's answer was nothing but a low whisper.

It was almost a reflexive action that he pressed his body against the miser's, who lifted the blanket for a moment and nestled up against his back. His arm rested on Hidan's side and the rough-textured hand stroked his breast and up to his throat. For a few seconds, the zealot was too flabbergasted to grasp this situation.

"Just tell me if you don't want this," the other ninja murmured as if he had read his thoughts. The caresses faded, but didn't stop completely. Hidan felt his own heartbeat, strong and fast, on his skin where Kakuzu's fingers rested. He faltered a moment. It was not that he hadn't been with another man before or that he was prude or that he didn't like Kakuzu (in fact, he fantasized about him quite a lot), but this whole event was too surreal.

"Guess I might need some human warmth as well."

Wait. Waitwaitwait! Did he just say that? The albino was surprised about his reaction, but his thoughts went a little abroad as the man behind him began mouthing the skin of his neck. He sighed and reached behind, trying to encourage the other man to continue. His hand found the surprisingly soft, dark hair of his partner and he buried his fingers in it.

The older man pressed his hand against his chest, as if he was searching as much contact as possible.  For a while, they were only lying there, appreciating each other's warmth and presence. Hidan touched the other one's hand that was still lazily caressing his torso.

"Are there places you want to visit when the opportunity is given?"

The caresses stopped and Hidan heard a low humming noise. "Of course there are. I'm old, but I haven't seen every place by far."

The zealot took his opportunity to turn around, thus facing his teammate. "Was just wondering." He paused for a moment, trying to distinguish Kakuzu's face in the murkiness of their room. The situation wasn't the slightest bit tense, but he had the feeling that he needed to say something. "I can't help it, I feel like I'm cross-eyed when I lie and try to look at something."

A husky, yet rich laughter was the answer. The miser seemed to grin; this mimic was intensified by the stitches at the corners of his mouth. Then he leaned towards Hidan and kissed his cheek in an almost chaste manner.

"I'm still not sure how to justify this."

"What?"

"Bastard, all of this! Do you have an idea how to do this?"

Kakuzu seemed to think about his answer quite a while. "No," he stated stoically. "But I am not even sure if we have to."

A moment of silence followed.

"You can pretend this had been a bad dream." Hidan didn't hear the slightest hint of sarcasm or raillery as his companion made this suggestion.

"Naw... It's not too bad. Not at all."

Kakuzu's warm hand made its way down the albino's spine, then up again until it rested on his neck. Feeling a little bit challenged by the briskness of the older man, Hidan started touching the cinnamon-colored skin of his partner and found that he was fascinated by the rough stitches that covered the warm, a bit too dry skin. He had the feeling that Kakuzu was staring at him, but in the darkness he couldn't really tell if he did.

"Sometimes I wonder if there will ever be enough time." Now it was Kakuzu's turn to start some kind of conversation.

"What do you mean? We can't die."

"What you mean is: You can't die," Kakuzu corrected him with a faintly annoyed undertone.

"And this isn't what I mean. Will there ever be enough time to do all the things you want to do?"

"For me? Sure. Lord Jashin will grant me as much time as I need to fulfill his wishes. It's not my fault that you're a heathen and will pay for this in this life and in the afterlife."

Kakuzu had used his small sermon to slide one of his legs between those of the zealot and Hidan was surprised to feel the other's erection through their clothes against his hipbone. Both used to sleep topless, but in the wide, convenient trousers they wore under the trademark cloak. The fabric wasn't very thick, so Hidan should've had expected to feel something, but nonetheless this added to the surrealism of the situation.

Carefully, he traced the muscular stomach of his counterpart and felt him shiver under this light touch. It was strange how sensitive both of them were, albeit the uncountable injuries both had received during the years. Hidan had the feeling that his skin was burning where the miser had touched it and Kakuzu's quickened breath as well as his reactions showed that he experienced something similar.

"Strange, isn't it?"

"What, to pretend to be normal human beings?"

Kakuzu laughed. "Exactly. Like we are…"

Both of them didn't sleep that night. The day after, they got up like nothing happened at all. Probably, a normal human being would've felt the need to talk about this. Maybe a normal human being would even have wondered if it had fallen in love.

THIS IS JUST

Woman. How can you write them so beautifully?!
It's just
'ASDNFUILHBIASBGISBGISJDKNGLUIDYGBUSDG
Perfect.

They're really IC considering the subject and the situation they're in, which is difficult for people to do. Whilst yes, TECHNICALLY it's OOC cause canon-wise they'd probably NEVER do anything like this, you've still managed to keep their character's absolutely perfect.

AND IT'S JUST SO TENDER AND WONDERFUL AND <33333333333333333333333333333333
I like how things are just hinted at, and done so very subtly. And just the idea of them being close like that and just softly touching and talking is just <3333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333

This is fantastic, dear~ ^_^

I LOVE YOU
SO MUCH AT THIS MOMENT
THIS RIGHT HERE, THIS BEAUTIFUL GORGEOUS WONDERFUL FANTASTIC FIC RIGHT HERE
IS BEYOOONNNDD AMAZING.

You have successfully made my night, I'm not even kidding. This is probably the most beautiful fic of Kakuzu and Hidan that I've read in a while. I mean, I don't even CARE if they're OOC, and y'know what? It's good to have a little OOC every once in a while~

I just love their dialogue in this. I love how they both talk about living forever (and I especially loved how Kakuzu was the one to ask Hidan if he feels he'll have enough time; sort of an ironic question, and I don't think our beloved immortal gave it enough thought. ) and how... shy? I think that's the best word... How shy they both are about this, how foreign it is to them. But at the same time, they give in to it.

And - being a person who has read far too much pr0n for her own good (a part of me is tired of KakuHida, because I've had some people... well, ruin it for me) - the ending was brilliant. I love the subtlety of it, yet you still know what went on. Those are the best endings in my opinion. Though I don't know why, they just ARE <333333333333333333333

I'm so thrilled to see you writing about these two once more - I've missed your gorgeous writing!!! D:

But now that it's back, I can read everything over and over and over again and never become tired of~

(lol, do you think I speak a different kind of key-mashing language because of all the 'ö', 'ü' and 'ä'?)

I'm sooo glad that you like the fic, dear!
Personally, I'm still not sure whether I like it a lot or completely hate it! ^^"
(I've stolen most of the dialogue and plot from my real-life, which makes the whole thing rather realistic and I like this about it, somehow, but I'm also unsure about the OOC thing. )
And yes, Hidan didn't give it enough thought at all!

Really? I don't read much pr0n, mainly because I can hardly relate to it in most cases and this makes it uninteresting for me, but from time to time I think it might be helpful to read some of it to figure out how other authors think about a certain couple. I guess what you mean when you talk about ruining it for you. Out there are too many things that make you whish for brain bleach!

I'm so glad I made your night! (Your cute and lovely review made my day, by the way, but I think you know this! )

You did your best~

(HAHAHA, Yes, many different types of key-mashing now~)

Ahh, well, I hope after this little review that I've given, you like it just a bit more.
(And now that you say that, it would make sense that these were based on real conversations. Makes me wonder if I possibly subconsciously do the same thing, because my conversations have to be based on something...)

That's very true, if you can't relate to it, it's kinda pointless, yeah? It's just so sad that the relationship between Kakuzu and Hidan isn't portrayed very well with many fiction writers. -___- And y'know, I would seriously go for that brain bleach right about now.

(Oh, of course I know this~ ;D)

Of course I did. But it was too difficult!

(I'm still surprised how this has spread through the entire fandom!)

I do! Of course!
(I think so. In descriptions I realize this more often. I usually base them on places I know because I want the reader to feel like he is there. This is why I usually try to describe lots of differend factors, not only what is seen, but also how the air smells or what noises are out there. In one of your fics, ad hoc I don't know which it was, you've written a dialogue that reminded me of something we've talked about weeks before the publication of the story. So, maybe you do this from time to time. )

It is. Sometimes I gain the impression the people feel like they have to force a relationship between the two of them. But in my opinion this happens almost automatically if you don't need this completely irrational 'oh, we love each other more than anything else'-thing.

Hahah!

(Why of course~)

Woo! /feels accomplished
(That's very true, and it makes sense. More ways to relate to your reader (or what you're reading as the reader) means that there's more of a... connection, of sorts? A way to get them more engaged in what they're reading. )

Exactly. That's really something I feel certain people may need to understand in fandoms, not just one in particular. They don't HAVE to be together, but if they are, I only ask that it's a bit realistic, y'know?
