Feeling quite lost in the direction of backgrounds. It's something I want to spend more time improving in. I've been trying 45min to 1hour30min sketches which is what these are. I picked natural environments to focus on first.Related content

Dude! I can totally see all the Japanese reference in these paintings as well as the inspiration this country has transpired into your art. keep um coming! I finally have some true inspiration. ^^

The backgrounds are feeling communicative. They have a solid use of lighting, composition, and translate well from thumbnail view. One thing that might help them along a bit more would be to show some scale. They feel a little small in some areas.. Other than that kicking ass! Keep up the great work.

Wooo, you got some solid bgs working here man. Oh I love how each one has its own feel, yet they are tied together with the color palette and mood. Awesome job, i'm not sure about you, but I find water to be fun. It's like one of those things you go "water is gonna be hard" but then you start to bust it and surprise yourself. These are looking really great, and I hope to see more soon.

You are so right! I always can't wait to get to the water. The first time I was like how the hell. Haven't had to much time to do more but I have been making duds. It's like 50/50 in that hour and a half. Kicks my ass.

do you look at reference pics for these? yeah....we got 1 tutorial on how u sketch BGs....now...maybe coloring BG tutorial would be awsome

I refed the second one for rock formations. I really need to do it more since my knowledge of BGs is lacking.
Hopefully I'll make one in the future haha maybe when I become more confident...

Well I'd say you are doing quite well for practice. These look very much like finished watercolour paintings, something you might see with kanji or poems to the side. I can't think of much critique for you but I will say in the #2 it seems the water is glassy and not as reflective as one might imagine. The others though have natural looking water. Can't put my my finger on it....
GREAT WORK though!! Keep it up.

Wow... i got nuthin else to say.. but wow. I really love the last one. Damn i was trying this lastnight and i no where close to this. but this is a great inpriation to try harder. Great work.. I want to see more ^^. Also bigger pictures I would like to study these. ^^

those are beautiful. it reminds me a bit of that movie, "what dreams may come." if you've never seen its, its visually pleasing, but a dramarific movie with robin williams.
