I suppose I agree that everyone can find or make themselves something which gives them meaning in life. But I think it is obvious that there is a single answer in the end, and not everyone can be right.
I think that life is based on decisions and actions, along with cultural changes and natural disasters, but then again, the future is based on how you react to those.
I think people are free in life, but bound by death. If that makes sense?
Like while we live we choose what we want, but when we die, whether you believe you simply cease living and nothing happens, or if you believe you go to an afterlife is irrelevant. Because what is the truth will remain so and cannot be affected by a person.
My favorite of the haikus's is the third one, to me I think it means that we are bound by some things, but free to do anything within those rules.
And I think they all express perfectly how terrifying this freedom is, the responsibility, you have the power to leave the earth the same, or changed, and everything you decide is permanent.
Those are just my thoughts though ^^ sorry it was long
I like a good discussion and sometimes it's hard to find people to talk to haha

To a certain degree, you are right. Death is a pain in the ass when you think about freedom. With every breath and every blink, it shows us our limits.
But we can not determine what death is like...the process of dying may not be nice but whatever comes afterwards does not lay within our hands...or maybe it does. Maybe it is depending on what we do in life.
But the main point is, we have no idea. And that gives us all the freedom we want...why should I focus my endeavour and way of life on something I will never be able to control?
What I think of when I talk about freedom is the following...We as humans are completely free in our choices no matter the result. Authorities like religions, governments and even family are "fake authorities" and if we go along with them just so we don't have to make the hard decisions on our own that is called "bad faith".
To live the way you want, according to your own expectations of morality and emphasis on different aspects of life makes you "authentic".
It is an adventure to live like this and it might even be scary but it is the only way to unfold your true potential.
Concerning the third Haiku: Your interpretation is really nice ^^ But I will hand my initial thoughts to you, so you can decide if you want to stick with your version or not
Once the fake authorities realize they lose control over you, because you are walking on your own path, they will decide whether they are fine with it or not.
Ideally, your family will let you go and support you no matter what. But those who are used to control people will have a hard time accepting that you are an individual.
They will try to restrain you and force you to obey rules, which you can not agree with.
But that is just me spilling out big words XD
It is a pleasure to have someone as thoughtful as you around

That's true, I get what you mean about making your life revolve around something you can't control.
About religion being an authority, I am not sure if I agree. Often times religion can be just a set of rules to follow, but I know for many people it is a hope, something that they look forward to, to get through another day alive. I think religion should be based on facts however, and not simply emotions. But when a person is going through a hard time, those facts can be comforting.
On the third haiku, I like your interpretation better. I dislike when people simply do something because it's what their parents do, or their friends do, or what the law says. You need to make your own reasoning and decisions and actually care about the choice to be a truly good person.
And same here to you

Aah yeah...I should have said "religious institutions" instead ^^'
To be religious is not a bad thing as long as it feels right to someone.
That is the whole point of being free...and it is the way I live.
