Why is it that everyone who goes to the darkside like red lightsabers. I know the whole synthetic kaiburr crystals infused with the darkside excuse, but whenever someone goes to the darkside they seem to get one IMMEDIATELY! I'll give Lucas a break for letting Vader keeps his after his fall.BTW, this art gem is by~hupao. See his artwork here:

It's because red lightsabers just look cooler and all force users want one; but jedi don't use them to avoid being mistaken for sith. So when they become sith for real, they immediately go to their hidden stash to get the red crystal they'd previously found and had decided to keep (because you just don't throw away a red lightsaber crystal) in case they ever ended up going dark, but found themselves not looking badass enough.

Well Dark Jedi use many other colors..."Sith" tend to use red because it is aggressive and seems to be more of a badge...even the sounds the sabre makes has more aggression to it if you listen 
Also, when mass producing something for a war (aka sith war etc)...its much easier to make ONE color...(looks at the Model T car...available in every color as long as it was black)

actually, it's an act of defiance against the jedi way to make your sword out of a synthetic crystal(which usually turns out red).. but i have heard of some sith using purple so i don't know the rules all that well, i'm just putting in my two sense:3

Awesome drawing! I don't know why they like red lightsabers. I think in one of the latest novels they mentioned something about the original Sith were a red skinned race. Maybe that was the reason, the red lightsabers complemented their skin tone.
Anyway, this was beautifully drawn!

True! During the First Corellian Insurrection, Luke presented Leia a new lightsaber to approve of her as a Jedi. This was in the Corellian Triolgy, before any of the Prequels came out, so no one knew a red lightsaber was looked upon as a darksiders' tool.

Actually even during the Old Jedi order order some Jedi used Red Crystals. Color means nothing only the wielder.

i heard at one point sidious had destroyed most(if not all) crystal deposits in the known galaxy to diminish the jedi way even further.. after that, any sabers had to be constructed with synthetic crystals, which is how the sith made theirs:]

If i had to guess I would say that the color represents they'er chosen paths. red like a politicians red "power" tie.
Or maybe it is stained that way due to the blood of those that are in there way.

In the Jedi Order, each Jedi student makes a journey to get Illium Crystals for the lightsaber they will one day build. This journey is considered a rite of passage. As a result, Jedi sabers are many different colors depending on the crystals they find.
There is no such ritual for the Sith. The Sith prefer synthetic crystals for their sabers. The synthetic crystals save the Sith the long trek to get Illium Crystals, provide more blade tuning options, and give Sith sabers their characteristic red blade.

Red lightsaber crystals are only seen on "the bad guys" because Lucas deems it so. If they had a choice they would wield a variety of colors (like in the games, and in the upcoming TOR)

I know what you're saying,I'm NOT arguing with you. But THEY don't have a choice because THEY are fictional characters. So you saying "if they had a choice", is like saying you've spent time with them and they are complaining... And I really don't think the Sith CARE about a 'wide variety of colors for their lightsabers, I just can't see Darth Maul sitting in a corner pissed cause he got a red blade but wanted pastel blue.
Lucas is still in charge, everything has to meet with his approval, so if they are using other colors in the games and TOR, it's because Lucas authorized it.

I think there were 5 people who used non-red lightsabers after becoming Sith... including Vader and Darth Caedus

I know. Exar Kun, Ulic Qel-Droma,as well as Darths Caedus, Vader, Traya were all Sith who had blue and green lightsabers when they converted. There were also Dark Jedi villains like Inquisitor Jerec's Seven Dark Jedi Kyle Katarn defeated who had yellow, orange, deep blue AND red lighsabers. There was also Aleema Rar, Aurra Sing and Ventress before Dooku took he in. My point is that most Star Wars villains with Force Sensitivity use red lightsabers.
