thank you camille so much
i tried to keep this very light and soft when i tried to darken the flower
it kinda threw off the rest of the artwork and left it as it is
so glad you like it

Amazing work, Kat! I have to keep looking at her wispy hair and the lashes...how did you do that with charcoal(hate the stuff!) When I was in school and then college, they made you draw withchalk or charcoal, but it drives me crazy I cannot stand the thought of charcoal or chalk cracking and getting between my fingernails..my tutors thought I was mental when I begged to use pencil instead. I know it's weird, but drawing with charcoal is just as bad as scraping nails down a wall or blackboard for me!!
Once again, stunning work, Kat!

aww thank YOU joanna so much
I'll admit charcoal is not the easiest tool to work with, i use the
pencil charcoal's and they are easier to handle than the
big chalks i use those to work in big areas ,it can be messy
and not so forgiving if you go too dark and decide to remove it will
be almost impossible but it has it's good points
i love using it for blown up portraits it builds up contrast fast and
when used right you can pull out some amazing highlights,i think of charcoal
as pencil paint ioften use my fingers and even brushes

Katerina-Art In reply to Zindy [2010-10-16 22:34:50 +0000 UTC]

thanks zindy so much it was kinda challenging to do
i always find blond/fair people in charcoal more challenging than
darker
