Description

Earlier this year, To Change, a transformation-themed RPG system, was released (More on that below). In conjunction of that, the dev's hosted a "Transformation Game Jam". I provided a "judge's choice" prize for the contest, while also submitting my own entry.

One such entry was The Wrath of Zagan, a barbarian adventure story in the vein of Conan the Cimmerian and Red Sonja. I really enjoy these stories, both the original forms and the variations they have inspired. I was really impressed by Zagan's dedication to the aesthetic and feel of the Conan/Sonja stories, complete with loving nods to many of the tropes that fill them. The lone barbarian warrior, the dark ritual at the center of an obscene forgotten temple, the snake-obsessed mad priest, even the poetic musings of an unseen storyteller in the module's text. There were a lot of great entries, but Wrath of Zagan really inspired me, resulting in this, the cover page for the module, now available in a brand new revised format (Linked below). I highly suggest any fans of either Barbarian Warriors or transformation to check it out!

The Barbarian is a warrior on the trail of their nemesis, the warlock Zagan. Zagan’s cult has kidnapped the heir to the kingdom of Acheronia, and is planning to sacrifice them to their dark god. Whoever brings back the heir will be granted a vast reward, and possibly even their hand in marriage.

After an initial skirmish with a few of the cultists, Zagan curses the Barbarian, starting a gradual transformation into an Ophidian - a serpent-person! Can the Barbarian slay their archenemy, rescue the royal, and restore their humanity?

"The Wrath of Zagan" is an adventure for the rules-light To Change system. It's intended as a one-shot adventure for a single loincloth-clad barbarian hero, but can be adapted for a group with minimal effort. It was written as a submission for the 2023 Transformation TTRPG Jam .

To Change is a rules-light TTRPG where players will find themselves faced with a shared experience of a transformation in the body and mind. Whether the change is something terrible to be avoided or something wonderful to be pursued, whether it is something enigmatic or anticipated, the possibilities are limitless. The system is setting agnostic, with adventures that span a wide range of genres to cover themes of body horror and lost humanity, as well as self discovery and the joy of taking on a new form.

To change has a wide variety of adventures for solo and group play, and a simple, intuitive mechanic that allows for highly interactive and malleable narrative. There's even a downloadable Kroashent Module for the system!
