Description

In light of the soon to be released LittleBigPlanet 2, I have started designing a series of Sackboy Costumes that I would (in theory) love to see created and input into the DLC content.

The current one is of the King of all Cosmos from the Japanese game Katamari released on the PlayStation. I intend to also complete the Queen of all Cosmos and Prince and make a full set.

Details:

The Crown: This is made of corrugated card. At frontal directions it has a simple carded texture and at angles of the tips, there is visible thickness that shows the fluted corrugated sheet around the outside.
At the tip of the crown, there are springs that attach on to 'gems'. I still wanted to keep the crown elegant in a way, while still trying to reproduce it in a LBP 'handcrafted' style.
The Head: The main part of this costume would obviously be the Katamari headpiece. I wanted to keep this bright, colourful and eyecatching; and was given the idea by a friend to create the head as if it were all made out of various fabrics and then sewn together. There is noticable stitching around a lot of the shapes, and a wide selection of different fabrics used as textures.
The idea was based on the motion of the Sackboy in game. When motionless the head would sag to the sides as it does now. When running and jumping the head will bounce along with the Sackboy etc.
The Clothes: The clothes to me are a little dull, but I didnt want to take too much aesthetic attention away from the head and the crown, which I feel are the key parts in categorising the King of all Cosmos, to just a Prince. I am rather happy with how the belt turned out; mainly the detailing in the centre, and think it nicely frames the change from top to bottom.
