Description First painting in a 3-part series of my city design. This civilization I created rarely touches the earth. It, and the life it nurtures, is far too sacred for them to lay foot upon its surface. Only a select few have that privilege and those are the Shamans. The Shamans are those rare individuals gifted with the talent of nature magic. They help to erect more "tree stilts" that grow from the earth to support their city above the clouds and nurture the forests that lie below them. They also study the earth from their cathedrals/observatories that are built with a transparent floor so that they might gaze upon it in worship. In their fervor for the earth, this people lost the use of their wings, the very thing they had evolved for.

This is another image of Twila, completed for my illustration class this semester. I've imagined that after her grand adventure to save the universe has come to an end, after Calandor has passed and that chapter in her long lifespan has closed, Twila would one day return to her people, from whom she was kidnapped and sold into slavery as a child, and that she would take up her place as a worldly and compassionate Shaman. While in her long absence, she became the first of her people to regain the use of her wings, and upon returning, eventually guides her fellows along a path of living in perfect harmony with the earth and the sky, rather than existing caught between them. A Kyrian obtains personal nirvana when he or she discovers the truth to flight.

Here Twila gives thanks to the earth for its gift of life and brings forth a new sapling. This is largely an analogous color scheme, for those who know what that is. I only broke from that scheme in the skin tone because I was too lazy to make a believable one in shades of green, yellow-green, and blue-green. I forgot to add stars and clouds in the sky before scanning it. -__-;; This is 11" x 15" done in acrylics on masonite.

The color and depth in the piece are divine - I do have to mention though that the rays of the glowing orb are way too stylized and should probably be softened for a more believeable affect that concides with the rest of the painting. Also, you mention about the skin tone being flesh and not green, but honestly, I think if it were green the painting would be too green, you know? like the flesh kind of lets the eye reast a moment before moving onto the rest of the painting, which with its color ir very electric. I like that the way it is and am glad you were "too lazy" to make a believable green skin tone.

Thank you for the crit. I wasn't sure how far we were allowed to stray from the color scheme in this assignment, but I risked it with the skin tone. I was able to lift the painted rays up with a damp brush. I'm hoping to fix them before I go to Review Committee next week. I'm flattered you took the time to let me know what you think. You have a wonderful gallery and enviable skill.

Very lovely. The detail is amazing and the colors are like liquid, very organic and at the same time unreal.

Well, I don't have my computer. Jared has it. He also has the tablet too. A good bit of my stuff was left up there because I had the intentions of heading back. So until I give him the money he wants, I doubt I'll get it back to do any of my own stuff.
