and I hiked with some other friends in the foothills the other day...California Poppies were everywhere!!! Despite there being too little rain, what we got last month has given us a stunning wild flower season

These are last year's, but were near Placerville CA (actually just up the river near Coloma where the 1849 gold rush started

This is the California I remember. I grew up in Los Altos and the bay area. I don't see sights like this anymore living in San diego. Beautiful!!!

It is interesting how the poppies can be fantastic in one part of the state and be a total flop elsewhere... have you ever gone to the Poppy Preserve up northeast of LA near Lancaster? www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=627
