Thanks! This is actually really old. I don't think Ill go back into this one, if anything Ill probably just remake it one day when I learn more about rendering and hair specifically lol

How long does such a portrait usually take you?

This took like 3ish hours, most of it was trying to get the proportions right, I suck at that! I never usually spend that much time on anything if Im not planning on actually doing anything with it though even though I should! How long does your traditional work take you? Its amazing! Every time I look at it Im jealous because Ive never used any of those mediums lolΒ

pfft, that varies so much. usually the size of the painting is a good indicator. If I only focus on a subject, 3-5 hours for a slightly bigger than a-4 sized paper is acceptble. As soon as the background comes in it's harder. Now I'm working on something that is requiring a lot of planning and I don't even know if it will turn out well and I really don't care to count the hours for that

(i typically loathe measuring and go by eye, which is why i have trouble)

Oh yea thats exactly what I do. I never use any other form of measuring unless Im doing a figure from life, I hate it lol. But thanks! Likeness is hard! I think Im finally starting to get close to it though!

Its getting better, whenever Im doing something personal I only use my eye because I want to get it better and better to where measuring isnt all that necessary.Β

but even some of the professionals i've been around still use it heavily...

Lol I make sure I measure as best as I can in class, it actually helps you when youre measuring by eye! You get used to what proportions seem right and you start to notice when something is off so much faster, and its too late, Im already writing and angry email to your professor lol
