Description hope this simply tutorial can answer the question that I'm asked most: how do I coloring hair.

It is much more simple than you imagin, isn't. My color method use to be much complicated, but now I simplified it. However, the process becomes very random and requires more experience in controlling the brush and color, so I don't know how to be more specific, and there is actually no fixed way to do it. so please don't blame me if you can't get the same out come by following this "tutorial", cus even myself can produce it i again.

anyway, the point for making this tutorial, is to share the idea that scan is not the only way to import hand-drawna lineart into computer, sometimes a well shoot photo lineart works in another way, because it has more texture and delicate light touch, (but maybe also more complicated to deal with, cus the lineart and background can not be separated).

no no, it was the original color, I didn't adjust the white balance when I shoot the photo, so it's bit gray, which is the nature color and texture I'm looking for.

What I mean to ask is

once you import the photo of the sketch you made

to add color

you color over the sketch right? or no?

no, I didn't add color on top, I used Hue and curve to modify the original photo color.

Yeh... I think it maybe bit difficult to follow, it's not hard, it's... just including too many random tech that hard for me to explain. anyway, I'll make another tutorial of drawing in Sai, that one should be easier to follow

Sai is basicly a simplified Photoshop, so the method works for sai, mostly works for Photoshop as well. just some function is not as handy as Sai dose.
But why not download one, it's free and very small.

I was very confused as well, but since my friends forced me for a few try, I start to feel it's actually very handy, espacially for sketch and lineart.

How do you make the lineart photo, is it with pen and paper or something more digital? Don't just tell me the names, tell me how they look like and how the process works so that I can imagine it clearly

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

kelly1412 In reply to Somnium-23 [2012-04-05 01:32:30 +0000 UTC]

lineart was made by pental propelling pencil on A4 printing paper, shoot by canon G9 (any camera could work), nothing special. can't be simpler: I shoot my lineart just because I don't have scaner and I'm too lazy to got to friend's place to scan it.

some custom brush.

oh. well i love your style. it has a painted feel to it.

i've wanted to do that forever but can't seem to find the right brush for it.

kelly1412 In reply to Tenshichan1013 [2012-04-05 01:49:25 +0000 UTC]

If you really interesting in custom brush, personally I think, a "right brush" is not something you can "find", it need "raise" by the way you use it. it really depends on the artist. I downloaded lots brush from DA, but I haven't find one that can be use directly without any adjustment so far. I'm not saying they are not good brushes, I mean custom brush doesn't work for everyone equally.

yeah i guess you are right.

as you can see from my gallery my coloring style is somewhat simple in its over all look. but i've always been fascinated by the painted look i see on a lot of drawings.

i'd like to be able to do something like this [link]

That's one of my favorite as well!! I think it was made by present round brush, not custom one. It is his basic drawing skills made the piece stunning and standout

It may be simple, but seeing it in front of you makes it so much more straight forward! Thanks for sharing.

I've always wondered how you coloured the hair.
