Description Please refer to the West Park title page for history on the West Park Hospital.

Our first entry point on the site was the creche. First impressions were regarding just how much STUFF had been left behind! Things that would have been perfectly useful if they had been removed from the building when it had been closed down. Such an insane amount of needless waste...

This changing table was found in a room with countless other changing mats. A changing room for the babies on site, I am guessing. The walls in this section of the hospital were all peeling, with painted figured of animals and cartoon characters adorning them.

I will not reveal how to enter this building, nor any other. Urban exploration is a dangerous hobby. Unsafe flooring, collapsing ceilings, asbestos, needles and decay are all present in these environments. Please exercise extreme caution if you choose to go urban exploring yourself.

Why would there be babies in a mental institute? Can you actually diagnose mentally ill babies? Or were they born to some of the patients during their stay?

They'd often be children of the paitents. Many women were sent to these hospitals for stress-related illnesses, and bought their children.

A lot of the time, parts of these places were more like a weekend retreat that a secure mental facility.

Me: Wait a minute....babies?
In a MENTAL ASYLUM??
Chester: Which means that people were not only in here by many classes but also by ages, too.
Me: That,Chester,or I've been watching "Nightmare on Elm Street" too much.

At first this picture creeped me out when I saw the little preview in my deviant box. The brown blanket (I'm guessing it's a blanket) looked like it could be some sort of flesh thing *has been watching to many horror movies*. Even when you enlarge it it's somewhat creepy to look at yet at the same time I want to see more of this

I work as an art tech/site support at a secondary school atm, and it is shocking how much stuff is either left/destroyed during rebuilds...we tried to keep hold of anything we could reuse in the Art department during a recent rebuild then came back after the summer break to discover management had had the lot of it destroyed because they couldn't be bothered to get it moved across...not only was that a huge waste, it ended up costing them an extra couple of grand to get new equipment u_u.

*hands her the soapbox back*

Did you use a flash on your camera to get these pics? I only ask as they're all much more fluidly lit than I normally manage (mind you...I have no skill whatsoever xDD).

KellyJane In reply to PoisonRemedy [2009-11-03 10:09:39 +0000 UTC]

Yes, most of them used flash. Lighting in there was very poor

PoisonRemedy In reply to KellyJane [2009-11-03 17:20:08 +0000 UTC]

Ah I see, cheers for letting me know ^^. I should really splash out on a less barebones flash now I have a camera again. It's a bit like 'flash off: Blackness, flash on: ARGH BLINDNESS!' atm.

Oh and in hindsight sorry for the rant . The governmental approach to reusing equipment makes me a sad panda.

I hope you guys had gloves on in that place. It doesn't look like a place where you'd want to touch anything.

KellyJane In reply to Blue-Demon-Hybrid [2009-11-03 10:10:20 +0000 UTC]

I wore gloves, but they weren't nessecary so long as you are careful.

Jsut out of curiosity, do you pose the things in your pictures? Or are these taken as-is?

Amazing shots, anyway.

KellyJane In reply to XD-ness [2009-11-03 10:11:43 +0000 UTC]

I personally don't move things. However, many items have been moved around by previous explorers who want to make the picture look a certain way.

These photos all really are very interesting to me. I'm not sure why but they really strike my fancy. (i looked at them backwards, but yeah... ) I know I saw a person or two already mention this but since I just watched the movie on Saturday it's still fresh... These really do look like something out of Silent Hill. xDD
I've always been in to history and old stuff so these are really cool to look at.

Something like this... this exploration, sounds so amazing. I wish I could do something like this... yet, I would be much to paranoid of getting in trouble...
I love the pictures, it's like looking into a window into a world we're never shown, never taught about.

Most old unnused buildings around here torn down that only places are almost as old as the U.S (there is a church in the next city that I heard is 150 years olds) so it's REALLY unsafe.....there is never anything cool to do here (maybe ill sneak into the woods tommorrw)

Interesting indeed.

though truth be told, I thought the pillowcase or blanket on the middle rack on this changing table at first was a pair of large male gloves.

Kelly, how big of a crew do you usually take with you? Because I suspect you WOULD need a crew, just in case someone got hurt or lost, or if you just need someone to help you with equipment.
