I painted this for my mother as a gift in celebration of her beating breast cancer.

She got diagnosed last year, but she'd known of it for about two years before that. Due to severe depression and alot of other health issues she could not bring herself to find out the diagnosis. Thank god it was dormant and had been growing a shell around it instead of spreading. It felt huge though, so it's been a stressful year for all of us.
My mother's aunt (who died of cancer years back) always talked about phoenixes and how they, through hardship and obstacles, burned up to rid themselves of undesireable and toxic things and thoughts, only to rise again even stronger and more brilliant than before. My mother always held that mantra close to her.

Also, been practicing with acrylic paints lately They are incredibly fun and different from other mediums I'm familiar with.
