As soon as I saw this I thought Europe. It's awesome! It reminds of an image I've been trying to conjugate...a gryphon by a gryphon statue/fountain. Crazy, that actually sounds a lot similar. You did a lot better than I could ever.

a really inspiring piece.
there are a few things that stand out to me the most, that i feel really make the picture what it is.
the first is the texture. im not really sure how to describe it, because i dont think i could term it in a way thats as flattering as i feel it should be. but the texture gives a certain edge, this hint of something more that is very appealing.
the second is all the subtle 'back lightings' youve used. like the purple you can see on the left lions arm and cheek area, which match those on the rocks on which hes standing. these little details just really make this piece stand out to me.
