Description Ijiraq.

Forgot to upload this for some reason.

It's a paperman...Things that come out of storybooks if you tell them too often

It eats children

Unless it doesn't want to, in which case it will ask you for an emotion. Then you make a face at it and it will be satisfied

This is absolutely beautiful... and very off-putting. I love the bizarre but fickle lore!

Thanks, and thanks for the favs. I love weird dark myths, especially if they are Native American!

I love obscure myths. It's funny, the bad rap hipsters have gotten for their obsession with obscurity, but I'm very sensitive to the banality of western society, and I even was when I was a child. I love the A-typical, and myths with questionable origins fascinate me!

Obscure stuff is sometimes the best stuff! I think that popularity is a bad judge of talent and appeal, so in that the hipsters are correct...I've been to Egypt and Germany, so I can see that America does have some good in it. But I tell you, Germany is much cleaner.
I love myths, and mythological creatures...I have whole lists of them in my sketchbook so I can draw the really odd obscure ones. Ancient civilizations had the best imaginations.

Definitely. Displaying specific yet obscure cultural phenomena also allows those normally disconnected to learn of things they... normally would have no exposure to.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you.

Yeah, I find it fascinating. Culture is something I'd like to study more.

And no problem at all. It sounds like you're pretty busy.

Eh, I make things more hectic than they need to be.

I'd love to do more with Anthropology.

Amen bro.

Odd question, but do you plan to be an artist career-wise, or something else? I think you'd be the einstein of designers, but I'm just basing that off the work you've done here.
If that's a personal question you don't need to answer it -- I'm just curious.

Ideally I'd love to. I'm not sure I'd go into design, but I'd prefer to be a studio artist. I plan to join the Peace Corps for a few years, then attend grad school, hopefully in an urban center, Brooklyn being the initial plan... then from there who knows. Half the battle is connections, but I want to do something with significance to myself. Something earnest.

I've been meaning to comment on this one for a while because I wanted time to actually take a good look at it.
This is one of my favorite works you have posted here. I can't explain truly why but it is just gorgeous. It reminds me of something I would see in a fairytale from when I was young. It seems like it comes from some ancient myth or story. The cloak is my favorite part. I love the color choice, how it stands out, and how you made it wrap around this ominous and dominating figure.
The first time I looked at this I thought again of the movie 'Spirited Away' This creature reminds of me of Noface when he was huge and all but your creature is much more beautiful and detailed. I just love it! This should be the cover of something, I mean it

Really, favorite? Haha, thanks -- weirdly my dad and mom think so too, but not my art teacher! I guess it's a special case. Thanks so much

"Spirited Away"? Ohh I'd love to see that movie, and now that you mention it this style does sort of mimic the one that Spirited Away uses. (I looked up Noface and laughed, he is so cute)

I don't know about cover, but actually this picture made me rethink the style I used for that narrative. It was a transition piece, really helped a lot. Don't think it will be the cover though...

"Mommy, read me 101 Dalmations again! 8D"
"But... Maranda, dear... it's 10 PM now. And I've already read it five times..."
"I don't care! I forgot what happens in the middle! 8D"
