Description
I now have a kitten
One day I was driving home from work and pulled over into a layby to check my messages. It was early August and I had the windows down (at the time my radio was broken) and I heard this pitiful mewing. At first I thought it was a very odd bird call - but after a google of nothing similar (though there is a bird called a catbird) I clambered into the undergrowth and this little ginger flash darted by my feet!
Then began about 6hrs of hunting through brambles, thorns, litter, abandoned junk, because he did not want to get caught yet kept mewing. I had help from my partner and his parents but we still couldn't catch him. We gave up, planning to report him to the RSPCA. We drove to get take-away, but on our way back we pass the same spot - and a little flash of ginger ran in front of our car and into the opposite hedge. We pulled over again and began the same dance. Eventually, my partner caught him! What brought him out of the undergrowth was playing mother cat sounds from youtube, and coaxing him out with cat food, and silently waiting with a towel to bundle him (it was near midnight so I think he was blinded by the torchlight, allowing us to get close)
He was very small (about 5 weeks old) and a bit skinny, but very friendly. I found the small cardboard box he was dumped in I have no idea why he was abandoned, but he is doing great now, and is asleep on my lap as I type this. I can't believe that someone would abandon an animal when there are so many shelters/facebook groups/people willing to help.

I just had a similar experience catching a kitten that someone dumped in front of our house. It's only been a few days and he's already a snugglebug. Rescues are the best!

Beautiful. And thank you so much for taking the time and effort to rescue this little guy. I don't understand either how people can just dump kittens. But I'm so glad you found him and saved him!
