more like "she has no personality to begin with", indeed, the main character from that book and movie its an empty shell, so what satisfaction would anyone have killing something that has no life? that girl is not dangerous for the universe, and believe it or not, she cannot change how the characters see her... some see her like food or target practice and they keep doing so unless killed.

To answer Uhura's question: The atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. While most people assume the huge body count was garnered only by the explosion itself, it was the mutations caused by the radioactive fallout that did the most damage. They ranged from harmless -- extra toes and what -- to the wet-dreams of David Cronenburg, guy who remade The Fly. Everything from fat-clogged tumors to exploding glands and other such abominations.
These horrors inspired many a Japanese filmmaker and writer to this day, although the giant blob of hyper-mutating villain from Akira was more than a little exaggerated.
