Poor Luigi.
By the way, The minimalist look of the trainer makes her look cute.

"Hey!"
When Luigi gets backed into a corner, he doesn't suddenly become ferocious. He just becomes smaller. And gets backed even further. Like the unfortunate butt monkey that he is. (Poor guy.)

And I like how you draw Daisy as chubby. She looks cooler and more fitting that way in my opinion and more different from Peach.

Well thanks! I understand waht youre saying about our fat shaming culture. And i understand the jome in this comic. But thats neither here nor there. It still stands that the joke relies on a flawed premise when it comes to justifying the use of license characters. And, since daisy isnt known as being a chubby character, jokes based on her chubbiness dont follow. Again. This original character in a daisy costume being chubby doesnt bother me because i have a problem with chubby people. I think ive explained why it bothers me. Thanks for the surprisingly congenial reply.

I'm scrolling through some of these comments, and I don't understand why people seem to complain so much about Daisy being chubby.
Yeah, obviously she's not actually chubby when Nintendo has anything to do with it, but what's wrong with being chubby? I kinda like chubby Daisy. In fact, she's one of my favorite characters in the strips next to Link and, of course, Weegie.
The Nintendo one just shows off that she's a tomboy...and that's it. Yeah, that's cool and all, but there's not much more depth you can get out of that, considering you only see her in, what, the sports, party and racing games of the franchise? And even in her debut game, she was just a Peach copy...
Here, she's not just a tomboy, but she's restlessly determined (or stubborn) about her goals, whether it's to lose weight, or help Weegie with his problems, or anything else. On top of developing this kind of "gamer-girl" persona, she also has her moments where she don't take no crap. It just seems like a more believable scenario here, because it makes her a character that girls can relate to. I know I can relate with Daisy there.
And Weegie? He's not necessarily a "scaredy-cat" like his Mansion games, but he's more the insecure type, which is also more believable given how he's always "Player-2." They're friendship is hilarious with it's ups and downs, especially here when Luigi wants to try his own method of training that doesn't involve Daisy, and she just gets offended by it XD Guess she's the more dominant one here (though I'm no necessarily implying they're relationship is romatic; I enjoy this friend zoning going on here because I'm just fine with it.)
And yes, I enjoy Wii Fit trainer in your style to. She seems like a "go-with-the-flow" type of gal so far. Definitely looking forward to seeing her in more comics; maybe Link could be interested in her giving Daisy even more reason to compete with her.
Or maybe I'm reading too much into this and you should call me out on this...

The issue for me is, and always has been Kevin's insistence on having his cake and eating it too when it comes to the use of licensed characters. What he does most of the time is take a licensed character, and massively change that character's look and personality to suit his own original world. He then calls this "parody."
In order for something to be a parody, it must be calling into question, mocking or making fun of something about the source material. Good parodies do this in a clear, recognizable way and reveal a keen observation about a flaw or absurdity in the source material.
This is my go-to example.
www.vgcats.com/comics/?strip_i…
This is parody. Anyone who has played Ocarina of Time knows exactly why, and exactly how it fits the criteria.
Why is this important? Well, for one, Kevin's material, in terms of comedic writing, ranges from completely unfunny, to mostly unfunny, to a decent parodic gag once in a while. I don't mean to sound harsh. I think he's a brilliant, wonderful cartoonist. However, I think that his use of licensed characters is both a crutch and a means of getting pageviews and attention. To those of you who don't see what I mean, I invite you to try the following exercise.
Take any given Weegie comic. Even this one. Change the names of the characters and remove all allusions to their being licensed characters. Since this doesn't rely on the source material at ALL to be understood, it should be funny both before and after this transformation. Ok. have you done it? Is it funny? If it isn't, this should reveal to you the use of this crutch. And if it were an actual parody, changing the names and locations would probably render the joke nonsensical(like if you were to remove referencing to Zelda in the VGcats example).
I've taken issue with this before. It offends me. I think it is an affront to the discipline of dramatic and comedic writing.
Kevin, I urge you to, once again, consider this.
How long did it take you to cultivate your skills as an illustrator? How many hours, months, years of study, practice, patience, dedication, education etc. did it take? How much is it STILL taking? Ok. I imagine the number is very high. Now. I ask you. What makes you think it takes any LESS of those things to become a competent comedian or dramatic writer?
This is the heart of my issue.
The long-short of it, I don't like that Daisy is chubby for 2 reasons. First, her being chubby has NOTHING to do with the source material, so she may as well be a new character. She isn't a new character because Kevin capitalizes on her name recognition to package his poorly written jokes. This is both offensive and illegal(if he aims to make money). Second, he then BASES jokes on her being chubby, like in this comic right here. So, he's basing his punchline on a flawed premise which, again, renders this with no parodic or satiric value. The Wii Fit lady is related to fitness, but tying Daisy into a joke about weight loss or fitness makes NO SENSE unless you accept that she's basically a new character, which, again, demonstrates that the use of the licensed character is a cheap means of garnering popularity from nintendo fans.
Sorry for the rant. Sometimes these comics do qualify as actual parodies, and I try to give credit where it's due.

Whoa, hello. That is the LONGEST comment I've ever seen.
Okay, yes. You've definitely explained your point very well. I actually congratulate you on that And you are right about replacing the characters with any new names or anything. This is really more a fan sitcom with the characters than a parody, and can be done with any other character.
Though Kevin doesn't really aim to make any money off of this (and can he if he's using copyrighted characters like this?). Even though you might find some of his decisions offensive, like making Daisy chubby, I don't really see harm in it. Sure, maybe it's just a quick fix to getting more views, but it's not like he's trying to brainwash us with these comics or anything. Plenty of people make comics with official characters out there like this, and they don't nearly get as many views out there.
And yeah, there are jokes about Daisy being fat... but they're not as drastic as many other fat characters in franchises. We're so used to "perfect-bodied" characters that it's actually still kinda rare to see chubby characters. And chubby girl characters. They're usually the buddies to the main character (daisy being Weegee's friend here) though it's either just the chubby boy or the mousy girls with glasses demographic.
I'm not trying to defend Kevin here, (Because let's face it; I couldn't make any better argument here XD) but I am saying that for me, these comics are kind of refreshing for me to read. And the joke in the comic was about Weegee trying to avoid exercising just with Daisy and trying out WiiFit Trainer, without Daisy knowing, therefore, it seems like he's "cheating" on Daisy so to speak. She's been at this jogging thing for awhile, and it's not really a main, focused plot or joke; just a subtle background thing she does, and can even give a setting for another strip.
I mean, she jogs and tries to lose weight because girls are so pressured to look pretty and thin and delicate. I kinda see a little insecurity in that, but Daisy's determined to achieve being noticed, particularly by Link. That doesn't necessarily mean that we're supposed to obsess over the fact that she's fat. It means that she obsesses over the fact that she's fat, because being fat is "bad." You see it as an unnecessary, stupid method of parody to get lots of views, I see it as an addition of character that interests me and allows me to relate to.
Still though, I was pretty blown away by your well made argument

In order for this joke to be a joke, Daisy must be known for being chubby and constantly trying to get in shape...but since this is just made up out of nowhere, it renders this joke with zero parodic value.
Beautifully drawn, as always.

This is merely the style.
Which
in even the /actual canon depictions/
Is comedic and subject to change and has done so throughout the various renditions.
So please keep speaking, but at this point you're merely spouting a worthless bit of a critical comment without any backbone.
