Description Darkened it a little more. the commissioner should pick it up today.
_______

Well, this technically isn't done yet.

The commissioner asked me to finish 2-3 paintings by today, but I couldn't get around to others. She said that was fine, though, and doesn't mind that the next two are late.
So I finished this as quickly as I could, snapped this crappy photo of it, carried the painting through wind and rain, and the commissioner wasn't even there to pick it up. OTL

BUT THIS GIVES ME MORE TIME TO WORK ON IT. :'D
And with that said, anyone may critique my progress so far so that I can make the changes in time for the commissioner.

Hm. I like it. I think maybe the color at the border on the left of the painting could be darker, it'll bring the wing color into contrast and make it stand out. Maybe there could be some more definition around the pattern in the wings to make it a bit sharper. I like how it lightens a lot towards the right to white (or is that the camera flash?). I'm sure it looks much better and richer in person though

It is pretty much how it looks in person. No flash, just dimmed sunlight. the paper is warped, though, so it appears washed out, which it is to an extent, but it's mainly just uneven lighting.

I was also thinking darker. But I'm also not sure how I should apply the color to blend it into the lighter colors. I will also have to see how I can darken the colors without losing saturation.

Hm. Well the lighter colors look good.

For darker outlines on the butterfly maybe dip a dry brush directly in the paint? I'm not sure how to make the other colors darker though. What medium are you using?

But... it's too light. D:

It's watercolors. But I don't want to make an outline on the wings, and I don't want use the colors directly, which would create less contrast.
I'm thinking I should also do something about the negative space, but I don't know what.

Oooh, I see the dilemma. Okay. I have no idea how to evenly darken them. I was always twitchy with watercolors. Short of putting another layer of color on it (which would saturate it?) I'm not sure.

Hm. You could always do a henna design in gold in the negative space. Considering some of the flowers I'm used to doing for henna it wouldn't be out of place.

Watercolors are so hard. x_x At least they're valuable, haha.

I did consider adding a metallic pattern but I have neither metallic paint nor gold foil. Well, I might have some gold acrylic. No, I'm pretty sure I do - I just need to look for it. xD But... I'm afraid I'd ruin it with gold. I would like to add it, but I might mess it up. x_x

You don't say x__x I haven't used them since high school.

Hm. This is where PS comes in handy. Next time (since I think you're done with the pic) open it in PS and draw a design on there and play with it? That way you can test-run it before deciding to apply or not.
