s guys!Also, because some people still seem to be a bit iffy; you always need to find neutral ground in life. Yes, of course it's more fun to have so many similar interests that you get excited just by seeing each other, because you know the conversation is going to be an absolute blast! However, you're not always going to get this. You're going to find people who you probably barely hold a civil conversation with because your minds are so different. If you can't at least try to get along though, you're never going to grow as a person. Life is about reaching out, and expanding on opinions and thoughts. If you find yourself with someone, arguing about a topic, try to take a step back. Find something you can talk about. It's not going to be necessarily easy, but if it was, life would be boring. I say tomatoes are a fruit, you swear by the death of your grandmother they're a vegetable; well alright, fine. We can both agree an apple is a fruit though, right? If you really can't get along, agree to disagree.
Don't let Fandom Wars ruin what could possibly be a nice friendship, simply because you believe Cloud uses enough hairgel to kill a chocobo, and your could-be-friend believes it's au-naturel.
Of course, you're completely free to disagree with me; I'd be quite the hypocrite if I got upset if you did.

I have friends that only ship cannon. I for the most part only ship yaoi. We get along though. Occasionally we can get in a disagreement about pairings, but for the most part, we can have a civil conversation.
Why is it people all over dA, or fanfiction.net can't get along?! It's incredibly stupid. I like cats. You like dogs. Does that mean we have to hate each other from the get-go?

First to ~DomaYuset . My cannon shipping friend. She's one of the most caring people I know, and even though we're only friends online, she means a lot to me. She's pep-talked me through a lot of problems.

Second to *Mewithe . My BL loving friend. She's got all the 'Older Female' knowledge that I have yet to aquire. She's helped so much with all my teenage angst. xD She's like the big sister I wish I had.

I'm starting to wish I could think the same way myself. I've become a very cynical person now when it comes to the way I feel about cartoons today and how people make them, and because of that I know that it's come between me and having a lot of friends on DeviantART.

Yeah it's great that friends are different. They complete you and they don't care about how do you look. Or maybe some care but then friendship won't be good.

This. People butting heads over their likes and dislikes on the internet made me dislike some fandoms.
Console wars (which are stupid IMO), ship wars (hey, it's like when you love someone and your friend thinks the person you like he's not his/her type... just get over it, it's personal taste, damnit), character hate, wars between fans of 2 series/movies/whatever...
It's so disheartening that I generally don't debate much and stay with people who shares my interests on the internet. Of course, those same people will maybe hate other things you love. In that case, I don't mention those things anymore after the first mention of dislike.
I know someone irl, she's a great gal, I have some common interests with her but sometimes, it happened I loved something and she hated it. Well, we just agreed to disagree and never talked about it again. But we're still friends (sorta, we don't see much but we get along well, despite both of us having strong personalities).
The thing is, I like what I like and I chose to share my interests with people who cares instead of angry haters who jumps at every word that might offend them. And I don't focus on hating things like some (I will never open an antisomething site or whatever... that's dumb).
What I mean is... I'm sad people are being unfriendly just because of different interests. What I generally do is sharing my interests with people who care on the internet. I debate (or read people debating) from time to time because I still like knowing why this or that would be hated or loved by others (not that it matters, but I still feel I get a better picture if I try to understand different/opposite sides *even if I don't agree with them*... people fighting over religion should try that).
But generally, I like to enjoy my things in peace with friendly people instead of haters, you know.
And that's why I'm sad... this hatred and holierthanyou attitude hurts the harmony of a fandom... that's why people form special groups/clubs (but I guess it can't be helped... I mean, if you enjoy talking about something and the person before you doesn't care or express extreme irritation... well, you won't feel any pleasure sharing that thing with the person in question... might as well forget it/chose another subject and talk about this with someone who will actually enjoy the talk... as interesting debates can be, some others are lost causes).
But I will never understand people spending their time hating on something (like creating sites dedicated to bash the character, series, couple, whatever... they loathe... and sometimes, they bash fans along with it) and insulting other people. Seriously, it's pointless... if I hate someone or something, I play the ignore card.... not spread the hate and annoy everyone (unless it really but REALLY revolts me... like rape, abuse, things irl that could affect my life in a really bad and unfair way... stuff like that).

Sometimes I think me and my best friend are completely different.
Probably it is true. We don't really listen to the same music, we have other visions of life and future, different hobbys and habits.
But the fact we can laugh about the same things makes us such good friends I think :3

I agree with you. It is sad that my friend eurupted and told me I had an isoalted bubble of a life because I hate math. I told her it was just my opinion and she is trying to make me feel like it is the wrong one. I personally don't care if she loves math, I just don't like it.
