Description     ROOOAAAAR!!
Oh no. Oh NO! OH NO! J'zena could hear Irileth's voice but could not understand the words as sheer terror swept through her. She felt tiny next to these Witerun guards! How much of an insect was she to the rapidly approaching fangs?!! She shakily pulled out the bow she had, very glad she had found something slightly better than Hadvar scraped up while retrieving the dragon-stone.
   "Krif krin. Pruzah!"
DRAGONS CAN TALK?!!! J'zena dove aside from his powerful fire breath, and tried again to line up a shot, but he was so fast in the air! Again the dragon breathed fire, and J'zena again dove out of the way... but she heard a scream behind her. One of the brave Whiterun guards had been hit, and the fire was rapidly burning his flesh. J'zena heard a scream of terror, and realized it was herself.
The ground shook and J'zena was nearly knocked off her feet. The dragon had landed. And he was LAUGHING. "Haha! I had forgotten what fine sport you mortals can provide!!" The dragon then just DEVOURED the guard nearest to him, the poor nord's torso gone in one bite. J'zena saw the blood and just dropped so she wouldn't see the rest. It didn't work as a SEVERED LEG landed next to her. J'zena scrambled away and climbed up on one of the stone pillars nearby.
"Divines, may this one's aim be true!!" J'zena prayed as she lined up her shot. She loosed her arrow. THWIP! THWOCK! J'zena felt her jaw drop. Her arrow had actually hit where she was aiming; she'd actually managed to hit the dragon's EYE. The dragon howled in pain, but he was far from disabled yet.
J'zena had to dive off the pillar as the dragon sent a wave of fire her way. She smelled burning fur. But she couldn't pause to check. She ran around the pillar and hid behind it for a moment, just trying to get some air back into her starved lungs. A large two handed axe lay nearby. J'zena grabbed it, not thinking but just doing at this point. She bit her own tongue to keep from screaming, and ran towards the dragon on his now blinded side.
He was busy trying to bite Irileth, he didn't see. J'zena swung the much too heavy for her axe, and brought it hard into the side of the dragon's head. Then.... Something came over her. She didn't know what, but suddenly she knew what to do and how to do it. Crazily, she jumped up onto the top of the dragon's snout! The dragon tried to shake her off, but he couldn't reach her. She jumped up and brought all of her weight and the axe's crashing down between his eyes.
"DOVAKIIN! NOOOOO!!" J'zena fell off the dragon with a thud, flat on her back. She stared up at the sky for a moment, unable to even draw breath. Black crept in at the corners of her sight as a high pitched ring echoed in her ears. Finally, one painful breath, then another. The black went away, the ringing faded. She stood up shakily. Had that really just happened?!
She slowly went to look at the dragon's head, a half formed thought of checking that it was really dead. But as she approached it...
"Everybody, get back!" Irileth commanded. It looked like the dragon was burning from the inside out! J'zena jumped back, but then it looked like the flames were following her!! She yelped in surprise, but then realized she wasn't being burned. A sound, like rushing wind, whistled in her ears. A warm feeling, like she'd just drank some warm, sweet tea, rushed through her body, and the little aches and pains and burns from the fight disapppeared. She looked in wonder at her paws as some kind of magical energy danced around her, and she seemed to be... absorbing it. The flesh of the dragon burned away, leaving only its skeleton.
Strangely, the wall from Bleak falls barrow danced across her thoughts, that one set of scratching that she had noticed, and that really strong draugr's strange thundering voice that caused her to stumble. Fus. Fus? Force. Fus meant force. But what? Why did she know that now? J'zena shook her head. Weird.
"I-I can't believe it, you.... you are... Dragonborn!"
"Huh? Dragonborn? J'zena is khajiit and has always been. What does this one mean?"
"Back in the very oldest tales, back when there were still dragons in Skyrim, the Dragonborn would slay dragons and steal their power. That's what you did, isn't it? Absorbed the dragon's power?"
    "J'zena doesn't know!!! How would J'zena know?!"
"There's only one way to find out, try to Shout! That would prove it. Acoording to the old legends, only the Dragonborn could Shout without training, the way the dragons do."
The guards started to talk amongst themselves, and again, the word Fus danced through J'zena's mind. Fus. Force. Surely it wouldn't hurt to just say it....
"FUS!"  J'zena jumped at the force of the sound that came from her mouth. It was well and truly a shout! She hadn't meant to say it so loudly, and clapped her paws to her mouth in surprise as the group of guards staggered from the power. Oh NO, had she hurt any of them?! But the one who had started the dragonborn conversation jumped up, excited.
"It is the power of old! The Voice of the Dragonborn! You MUST be one!"
"What do you say Irelith? You're being awfully quiet."
"Come on Irelith. Tell us. Do you believe in this Dragonborn business?"
"Hmph." Irileth crossed her arms. " Some of you would be better off keeping quiet rather than flapping your gums on matters you don't know anything about." She walked up and pointed to the dragon's skull. "Here's a dead dragon, and that's something I definetly understand. Now we know we can kill them. But I don't need some mythical 'Dragonborn.' Someone who can put down a dragon is more than enough for me."
J'zena felt very shy under the dark elf's intense gaze, but when she recieved a small smile, she realized that Irilethwas trying to complement her. J'zena smiled back.
"Pfft, you wouldn't understand Housecarl, you ain't a Nord!" the guard in the scaled helmet scoffed. J'zena wanted to laugh; she wasn't a Nord either, after all.
"I've been all across Tamriel! I've seen plenty of things just as outlandish as this! I'd advise you all to trust in the strength of your sword arm, over tales and legends."
"But that really WAS shouting! What you just did; must be. You really ARE Dragonborn, I'd bet my life on it!"
J'zena shrugged. After all, she had no idea. She was just happy to be alive right now. Irileth motioned for J'zena to come over to her. "That was the hairiest fight I've ever been in; And I've been in more than a few."
"If it is not too shameful to say, J'zena was terrified. Her heart is still pounding."
"No warrior is immune from fear, little one. As you never froze in place and caused your own or someone else's death, and you charged the dragon to try to help, you did much to overcome it." Irelith's dark eyes stared at J'zena intensely. "I can tell you don't have much experience on battlefields, yet here you are. That is a special bravery all its own. It's very hard to be away from your people and try to gain the trust of these hard headed Nords; but it is possible. And the path you've chosen to take is quite respectable, if I may say. In the few days you have been around, you've done more for Whiterun then some of this rabble."
"High praise from Irileth. This one will work hard to be worthy of it."
"I don't know about this whole 'Dragonborn' business, but I'm sure glad you're with us." She paused, looking around, and sighed. "You'd better get back to Whiterun, right away. Jarl Balgruuf will want to know what happened here."
J'zena nodded, and took one last look at the dragon's skull, the axe still sticking out of it. She tried to pull it out, and couldn't! It was wedged in there too tightly. J'zena then noticed something hanging off the handle of the axe.
A small golden amulet. A small golden Amulet of Talos. J'zena took it off the handle and pocketed it. Even if she couldn't have the axe, even if she knew this item was a bit taboo, even if she wasn't even sure Talos could be considered a divine, she would keep it, to remember this very big victory.
