It's shameful that we still put mentions of god even on modern-day monuments and statues paid for by the public.

Freedom and God? Hahaha, there is no such thing as freedom and God, and even less so combined.
If you don't do as God wants you to? Well yo Hell you go, if you believe that to be freedom then you're dumber than a brainless zombie.

people forget others are entitled to say that whenever they want too. They think just because they don't what to say it that it shouldn't be said. It's anyone's perogative. Be it government or otherwise. People like Newdol are worse than shit. anyway. rant over, great work so far.

I had a lot of UMPH when I took this picture because I have gotten into so many religious debates with people recently.
People are free to not believe in God.
People are free to believe that whatever they want is god.
I just severely dislike the idea of sandblasting historical buildings or tearing apart documents to get religious references out. Y'know?
And thank you! ^.^

((People are free to believe that whatever they want is god.))
You may -think- that you're free to. The Frist Commandment CLEARLY says that "you shall have no other gods before Me". You have the ABILITY to, but it's not the RIGHT thing to do; it's FORBIDDEN and it's a SIN.
It's almost the same thing as saying that you're free to rape somebody. You have the ABILITY to, but it's not RIGHT.

KidThink In reply to get-to-know-God [2007-02-15 08:30:17 +0000 UTC]
The First Commandment might say that, "You shall have no other gods before me", but the First Amendment protects freedom of religion. Thus my statement is true. Using the Bible as justification and basis of reasoning is no good in secular arguments...that would be like me telling someone that eating meat is specifically WRONG by all standards just because I believe so, when from their viewpoint, it might very well be perfectly alright. (Actually, I eat meat, that's just an example.)
As I said, people are free to worship whatever god they choose. They're also free to talk about whatever god they choose, even when talking to me. I might not like their beliefs and I might disagree, but that doesn't change the fact that they still have the right to do so.
Above most other things, I severely dislike it when people use the Bible in secular arguments in this manner.
And I'm a God-fearing, God-loving Christian.
Please feel free to respond, especially if I have offended you. My fencing skills are a bit unused and rusty right now.

Don't you worry about offending me ^^ It's not happening.
Alright, now do you consider man's rules to be more important than the rules of our CREATOR, God? Especially when they override His rules? Obviously so.
((Using the Bible as justification and basis of reasoning is no good in secular arguments))
If secular people want to use their secular reasoning to come to secular conclusions, that's their choice..but why shouldn't the Bible be used more in daily life? You youself claim to be a God-fearing, God-loving Christian, but you contradict yourself by saying that man's rules should be held with higher regard than God's. This doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
((that would be like me telling someone that eating meat is specifically WRONG by all standards just because I believe so, when from their viewpoint, it might very well be perfectly alright.))
Now hold on; I did NOT create the Bible. The Bible is GOD's word. He doesn't say things just for the sake of saying them. They have a purpose. We're supposed to listen to them. A great example of listening to God's word is the amazing detail of Alexander the Great, written about 250 years before his birth:
"And now I will show you the truth. Behold, three more kings shall arise in Persia; and a fourth shall be far richer than all of them; and when he has become strong through his riches, he shall stir up all against the kingdom of Greece. Then a mighty king shall arise, who shall rule with great dominion and do according to his will. And when he has arisen, his kingdom shall be broken and divided toward the four winds of heaven, but not to his posterity, nor according to the dominion with which he ruled; for his kingdom shall be plucked up and go to others besides these." (Daniel 11:2-4 RSV)
And what history has to tell us:
Alexander was the son of King Philip II of Macedon. In 336 B.C., at age 20, he assumed command of the Greek army. After putting down a rebellion in Greece, he began an eastward military campaign that quickly made him the ruler of the earth from Greece to India, where, according to some accounts, he sat down and wept because he had "run out of world to conquer." After he died suddenly at age 33, from an unknown illness, Alexander's kingdom was divided up by four of his generals - Syria went to Seleucus, Egypt to Ptolomy.
If you want to research more about Alexander to compare with the Bible passage, please feel free to.

Somehow it seems you are ignoring free will. Free will is not a sin, it may cause us to sin, but in itself is not. It allows us to make our own choices, whether we feel they are right or not. So if one were to consider man's laws more important, that is there god given ability. Just keep that in mind.

This is a country that was made for the freedom of religion or from religion. This country, however, also was a country founded upon the basic principals of christianity, and if anyone doesn't like that then they can either get over it or fucking move. They don't have to pronounce any kind of allegance to anybodys god. They can practice whatever they want. They should respect, though, that this country was founded on christianity.

"...this country was founded on christianity."
Demonstrably false. The founders were deists, like most men of the Enlightenment were, not Christians by the common understanding of the word. They made references to "the Creator" in the Declaration, but the Constitution makes it clear that this is a SECULAR nation--one of no particular religion.

All I was saying is that that's the attitude takin by most Christians, if they we're really Christians, they'd forgive us for our ignorance as they chop off our heads. Thereby, I take the standing of Peter Steele, singer of Type O Negative, I don't want to kill the Christians, I just want to fuck them (See Christian Woman on their album Bloody Kisses)
I don't get upset with people when they defend their religion, after all, I have far more zeal when I'm tearing it down.

"they'd forgive us for our ignorance as they chop off our heads"? I believe you still have your head, sir.
"I have far more zeal when I'm tearing it down." Bet.
Considering how many people in our community are openly about chastizing Christians and tearing them down, I think it's pretty alright for me to get to the "They can get over it or fucking move." The Bible definitely teaches a principle of turning the other cheek and talks a lot about forgiveness, but there is also such a thing as righteous anger.
And even if my standing up for my belief branches away from righteous anger and causes me to sin...guess what...my nondenominational faith tells me that I'm still going to heaven. And nobody's perfect. And it's time for someone to actually have their voice heard.

well,γI never particuarly intendedγupon adhering to the principles of christianity. Forgiveness is a good one, but demanding acceptance of a religion toγthe same extent that any other religion has nothing to do with forgiveness. We should accept that christians are gonna worship here. It`s the whole reason they came to america. If she wants to openly show that she is a christian, she should be able to do that. Any more, it seems like a faux pas to be a christian. That was my initial point. Hopefully I cleared it up.
