One thing I noticed (and someone else here did too, I'd link if I knew how) is that, despite making plans for the future, he is trapped on Lightning Island with no way off and will probably die of starvation there. Annie and Oakley were probably reading his obituary in prison because his body (or skeleton) would have been found when Melody returned to Lightning Island a year later
