Chapter 28 - Blade of the Dark

The wind howled at Endora Manor the next day. The broken house stood, completely silent and abandoned. Everyone stood in despair as they saw what had become of their home. Half of the townspeople were missing. Siss and Dr. Pederin were nowhere to be found.

“I miss Siss.” Spade said, depressed.

“We all do, bro.” Wart said.

“Siss was a living science experiment this whole time.” Bonnie said, “I can’t believe she never told us this.”

“Bonnie, she probably didn’t tell us for a reason.” Sombra said.

“You may be right, babe.” Haydn said. “When Siss tried to kill me, I saw the look in her eyes. It was the kind of look that someone gives you when they’re getting PTSD from something.”

“What point are you trying to make?” Simon asked.

“What I’m trying to say is this might not be the first time she tried to do this.” Haydn answered.

“Guys,” Envy said as she came back from the remains of the house, “The book is gone!”

“Dammit! That Pederin guy must’ve taken it.” Xavier said.

“The good news however, is that I was able to find the doll and three of my swords!” Envy said as she showed everyone the guide voodoo doll, along with the light’s bane, blood butcherer, and muramasa.

“Thank god!” Andrew said in relief. “I would not want to know what Pederin would do to that thing.” As he stared at the three swords, he then realized something. “...Wait a second, Envy. Do you still have your other two swords?”

“You mean my volcano greatsword and blade of grass?” Envy asked. “Yeah, I got them right here.” She pulled out the two swords.

“Envy, you actually have the ingredients to make a new sword!” Andrew said.

“A new sword? Andrew, what are you talking about?” Envy asked.

“Envy,” Andrew explained, “you have the light’s bane, the blood butcherer, the muramasa, the blade of grass, and the volcano greatsword. If you go to any of the altars in the Corruption or Crimson, you can fuse all five of these swords together into the blade of darkness itself, the night's edge." Just then Simon heard buzzing. He turned around to see the Queen Bee hovering in the air. The others quickly caught notice.

"Crap! Get ready to fight!" Envy shouted.

"Envy, wait!" Haydn shouted. "Look at its eyes." The eyes were no longer green. The Queen Bee fluttered down and landed on the ground with its feet. Sitting on her back was Siss.

"Siss?!" Everyone shouted.

"Hey, guys." Siss said as she hopped off the Queen Bee. She turned to it and said, "Thank you." Spade rushed over to Siss and hugged her to death. Eventually, everyone came over. They asked her all sorts of questions, until Andrew calmed everyone down.

"Everyone! One at a time." He said.

"Alright. First things first, you've got some explaining to do, 'Prototype 221'." Bonnie said.

"....Yeaaah, that…" Siss said. "But first, I have some things for y'all." She then handed Sombra a bee gun, handed Bonnie a bee's knees bow, and Envy a bee keeper sword.

"Siss, where did you get all this?" Sombra asked.

"The Queen Bee gave it to me in a treasure bag." Siss said.

"I'm sorry, what?" Envy questioned.

"I know it sounds crazy," Siss said, "But before I explain that part, let me tell y'all the story between me and HIM." Everyone listened closely to Siss. "A long time ago, I first awoke in a strange lab. It was all a distant memory, but I had no idea who I was. Then I saw HIM.”

“You mean Pederin?” Haydn asked.

“Yes,” Siss answered, “When he took me in, he named me Prototype 221. I knew I only had one purpose in this world…”

“What was that purpose?” Brooke asked.

“....To destroy…” Siss answered in a grim tone, “For the next few months, Pederin ran me through a series of tests and simulations. At first I was pretty unsuccessful. He was very nice to me at the time. If I failed a test, he would tell me to stay confident, as if I was his child. Eventually, I was suitable enough to be used in battle. I stuck by Pederin’s side for the past few years. Together, we brought chaos and destruction everywhere. I was considered to him, ‘the Ultimate Super Weapon’. As years went by though, I slowly noticed the fear and suffering I have left on my victims. Not only that, but I also began to ask myself: ‘Is this really my purpose?’ ‘Is what we were doing bad?’ I remember standing in front of this family that was scared to death. I was reluctant at first. Pederin, who was behind me, ordered me to kill them. So, I blew them up. Eventually, I snapped. On our last mission, I was ordered to obliterate a royal family of a kingdom somewhere in the Overworld. I knew it was in our world because I reencountered it years later. When I had the family cornered, I was going to blow them up at first. But then, I saw their fear. I saw how defenseless and weak they were all on their own. It was then that I realized: what we were doing was all wrong. Pederin watched me as I stood there and cried. A few moments later, we had to retreat. When we returned to the lab, Pederin was furious at me. He was no longer the same father figure I once knew. I then realized that I didn’t belong with him anymore, so later that night, I escaped the lab and into the Overworld. Pederin never provided me any clothing the whole time I lived with him, so I was on my own, naked and afraid.”

“Hold up,” Sombra interrupted, “You need to tell me that you never wore any clothes?!”

“Nnnope.” Siss answered, a little uncomfortable.

“But why though?” Bonnie asked.

“I don’t know, Pederin never told me why.” Siss said. “But I was oddly fine with it. After I escaped however, I was no longer comfortable with people finding out who I truly am. So I snatched a random piece of cloth and wrapped it around my chest, covering my tattoo and my scar.Several years later, I eventually bumped into you, Bonnie.”

“Yeah, we eventually stole a pair of clothes from a nearby town.” Bonnie said

“Yeah, I remember that.” Siss said. “So then we met Sombra, and eventually, Envy.”

“And then months later, all this happened.” Envy said.

“So, what happened? How did you escape?” Simon asked.

“Ok,” Siss explained,” Long story short, Pederin took me somewhere in the Underworld after y'all left. While he was asleep, I managed to escape climbing up a nearby building that led to an opening in the ceiling and into the underground jungle-"

"Wait, you know where he is?" Bindi cried.

"Let me finish!" Siss snapped. "There, I crossed paths with the giant hive we found months ago. I looked inside and saw the Queen Bee being attacked by infected hornets. I helped her out and she gave me the treasure bag I mentioned earlier. Now this may sound crazy, but I was somehow able to communicate with her, and get her to bring me here. And, you can tell what happened next."

"Wait, didn't he put one of those trackers on you, like what he did with Envy?" Simon asked.

"That dumbass thinks he's so smart with his little toys," Siss said, "Yes, he did put one on me. Luckily though, I was able to easily remove it and put it somewhere else."

"Thank the Empress of Shadow," Simon said, "Otherwise, he would come back here."

"Wait," Haydn said, "What happened to your magic mirror? You could've used that to escape."

"As soon as we returned to his layer in the Underworld, he confiscated it from me." Siss said.

"Right, I'm an idiot." Haydn said.

"But that's good though," Siss said, "cause I now know where he is."

"You do?!" Holly asked.

“Yes,” Siss said, “I told you, he’s somewhere underneath the jungle.”

“Siss!” Haydn said. “If you know where he is, that means we can stop him!”

“Yeah,” Bindi said, “And if we succeed, we’ll be able to get my brother back!”

“And Sarx, everyone.” Bonnie added on.

“Well, what are we waiting for?” Bonnie asked. “Let’s kick his ass!”

“Let’s blow his shins off!” Dolgrim shouted.

“Yeah!” Xavier said.

“Hold on, everyone.” Andrew said. “If we’re gonna take this guy down, we’ll have to grab some gear.”

“I agree with you, brother,” Kronos said, “We almost died last time.”

“There isn’t much time to grab new resources,” Calista said, “We’ll have to take what we have left.”

“Then it is decided,” Envy said, “Let’s get to work!” Throughout the day, the group gathered any resources that were still left in their destroyed home. The townspeople then took some of those resources and made them into armor or weapons. Sombra used some of the remaining jungle spores, stingers, and vines to make herself some jungle armor, which effectively boosted her magic. Siss used some beeswax from the Queen Bee to make a hornet staff, which allowed her to summon a hornet minion. For extra boost, Envy and Simon made potions for everyone. Later at dusk, the group in the Corruption. The Queen Bee stopped and landed in front of one of the chasms.

“Alright, we’re here.” Siss said.

“Jeez, this place is way creepier than I thought.” Bindi said. Just then, an eater of souls appeared. Bonnie shot it down with one of her phoenix blasters.

“Come on, they should be down there.” Envy said. Everyone slid down a rope that led down into the chasms. Eventually, they reached the bottom. The once dark tunnels were now lit with torches everywhere. Calista sighed.

“These caves still look the same as I found them all those years ago."

"How long have you been alive again?" Holly asked.

"Envy, there's one!" Simon pointed out. Envy noticed the demon altar giving off a purple glow in a dark corner.

"Oh, perfect…" Envy said. She slowly approached the demon altar and then stopped right in front of it. She looked back at Andrew. Andrew nodded his head at her. Envy then turned back to the demon altar. "...Welp, here goes nothing…" she said. She first placed the light's bane into the altar, then the blood butcherer, the muramasa, the blade of grass, and finally, the volcano greatsword. Suddenly, the swords began to levitate above the altar and spin in a circle together. A beacon of light glowed brightly from the demon altar as the swords fused together in a flash of purple light. When Envy opened her eyes, she saw a beautiful purple sword floating above the altar. Everyone stared in awe at the new shiny blade.

"Behold, Envy," Andrew said, "the night's edge." Envy slowly walked up to the demon altar and picked up the night's edge. She marveled the blade as it gleamed in the light. Just then, Bindi started to grunt. Mocha whined as she backed away from her.. Charcoal was beside her. Everyone stared at Bindi as she stood in a tense pose.

"Bindi, y-you ok?" Spade asked. Bindi then began to yell as a red beam of light shined on her. Everyone watched as her mouth turned into a snout and red fur began to grow all over her body. Eventually, Bindi roared as she transformed into a werefox. Her breathing slowly slowed down as the transformation concluded.

"Fox girl?" Dolgrim said. Bindi jerked and backed away like a frightened animal.

"Away!" She growled.

"Bindi, calm down," Siss said, "It's me, Siss, your friend." The werefox stared at Siss for a moment before speaking again.

"...F…Fr…Friend?...."

"Yes." Siss said. Bindi then slowly walked up to Siss and hugged her. Siss hugged her back.

"Siss, how did you do that?" Spade asked in amazement.

"This isn't the first time I've had to deal with this." Siss answered.

"You knew Bindi could do that?" Envy asked.

"Yeah, I accidentally found out months ago, during a full moon." Siss said.

"I didn't know she could do that. " Sombra said.

"I did." Andrew said.

"First, you're secretly an experiment of a mad scientist, now you secretly knew Bindi was a fox monster?" Bonnie asked. "What's next? You're secretly in love with Spade?" Everyone gasped and looked at her. Spade blushed in embarrassment. "What? I'm just guessing." Bonnie said. Andrew then noticed the blood moon shining down into the chasm from above.

“No wonder why the transformation occurred! There’s a blood moon.” Andrew said as he pointed up at the tunnel above. Everyone looked up the tunnel.

“Ah, that explains it…” Siss said.

“Siss, Pederin.” Haydn reminded her.

“Oh, right!” Siss said. “Andrew, do we have everything we need?”

“Yes, we should be ready.” Andrew answered.

“Then with that being said, let’s f**k him up!” Envy said. The group rushed out of the chasm, hopped on the Queen Bee and quickly flew over to the jungle in the light of the full blood moon.
