no, that is definitely not the case.
hoots mainly was gunter finally taking action to show that he/she is what hunson abadeer said gunter was: a truly evil being. for it used the cosmic owl's prescence to make the downfall of princess bubblegum possible in the near future. Meaning soon we can see another attempt of taking over Ooo from gunter. Besides, why would gunter jump off a cliff over ice king, when it has secret plans to take over Ooo, gunts is still gonna need the ice king for stuff.

i think he already acheieve his plans by getting thecosmic owl to go into princess bubblegums' dream to destroy the candy kingdom but for right now there are bigger things to worryon june 1 first start s a whole week of adventure time episodes and the season 6 finale involving the catylst comet
