No joke, it's good somebody can stand up to that guy. I'd like to see him try to boss the Gaunts around and they just lay about passively like apathetic cats.

Wow. Wow.
ThatΒ΄s without a doubt my favorite interpretation of Nodens.
How do you interpret him, character wise?

Could you specify what do you mean?

How would you interpret his role and such?
Also, there are people that think Nodens is actually nice, tho you don't seem to be one of them.

Nodens is the hunter. I don't think he is kind to humans, he just likes killing beasts of Nyarlathotep for sport.Β

I kinda like the Fall of Cthulhu interpretation of Nodens tbh.

The Great Old Ones cause horror and even insanity to those who see them, whereas the Elder Gods (Nodens, Bast,...) cause reverence and awe.

While this is true to post-Lovecraftian mythos I think he originally saw things otherwise. Nodens' name is inspired by Machen's "Great God Pan" where it is clearly portrayed as an evil creature. His servants' the Nightgaunts and title of "Lord of the Great Abyss" do not hint a very nice character either. Dream Quest of Unknown Kadath more strongly suggests their rivalry with Great Old Ones rather then being friendly to humans.

In my Chaosium guide, calling Nodens for help is iffy, as indeed they are only marginally involved in human affairs and only when paths cross. Even then you need "Oratory" to persuade Nodens to consider your appeal.

Like Jeckyl & Hyde, reference is made to "transcendental medicine" .Machen did mention some undescribed & undefined things such as the jeelo, the voola, the green and scarlet ceremonies , the Mao games, and so on,
I was in Bath, seeing the ruins there and found an inscription dedicating something to "Nodens, lord of the Great Abyss" on a wall in the bath. The water needs purging with strong acid.
Chaosium suggests that meeting or evoking Nodens, you must then present your case with skilled oratory, for helping humans is not on his docket, and he'd do it only if doing so would further his purposes.

That's understendable as Chaosium is intebded for RPG players. It surely must be fun to make the player present his case in some creative and convincing way but it isn't very coherent with the stories.

He came and had tea with Olney and the Old Man, and Olney was never quite the same since.

Some of his stuff is pretty weak to be honest. But dream cycle and cthulhu mythos are pure awesomeness.

Ah. I'm surprised you drew Nodens, but I'm very glad you did. I would have loved to see you draw him as described in The Strange High House, with all of the wild and wondrous color and energy, but this drawing is more unique, depicting him as a shadowy figure surrounded by the bat-winged Night Gaunts. I absolutely love it, and it hints at perhaps a stranger form beneath his hoary form.
