Description Dabi x Reader

Your legs swing through the air while you're caged behind the bars of your apartment's balcony. Your friend sat beside you in the same position; arms and legs slipped between the bars as you sat on the edge with your chest against the metal. The two of you stare at the brick wall of the neighboring building ahead of you. Sure, the view was shit, but you were also very lucky you weren't majorly exposed to the open nightlife of the city. Otherwise, it would be much harder to spend time with your childhood friend while hiding him from capture.

Dabi was a villain. He had committed horrible crimes and was wanted by every hero. But you adored him. He's had your heart since you were toddlers. He always took care of you and showered you with affection in all five love languages. You had always heard the warnings on the news about Dabi and the League, but you couldn't seem to link it with the man who would scoop you ice cream when you were in a bad mood. You would never express your feelings for a villain, so you silently cheered him on as his friend. And Dabi was supposed to be anti-hero, but he cared for you immensely. When both of you are together, past the threshold of your apartment, you're simply two best friends. You don't have to worry about the world out there and the tension between heroes and villains.

"You know how people see their whole life flash before their eyes right when they feel like they're about to reach death?" Dabi broke the silence. "You know, people might see mental images of their friends. Their families. Their dogs. Their favorite elementary school teacher." You nod and hum in agreement. He turns his head to rest his turquoise eyes on you. "What do you think you'd see, [Name]? I'm curious."

"I don't know, I don't like thinking about that stuff, Dabi, it's so morbid." You respond while your toes curl around thin air.

"But they say that life gains clarity when you have a near-death experience. Like your eyes are opened for the first time." Dabi looks ahead and extends his arm out, palm facing upwards. He curls his fingers and bright blue flames simmer at his fingertips. He knows you liked watching his Quirk when you two were in a dark place. "Aren't you interested in achieving a new perspective?"

You pout your lips out, putting some serious thought into your friend's pondering. "Hm, perhaps." You lean forward, hugging the bars to your chest. "I guess I like my perspective. I like my job teaching at UA. I like my small apartment with a crappy view. I like living in the city, even if I can barely see the stars or get a moment of quiet. I like sitting out here on my balcony. I even get to hang out with you, granted that you're always hiding here so heroes don't catch you." You smirk at your dear friend, paying close attention to his gnarled scars that you had come to love. "I guess I'm happy with the way things are."

Dabi closes his eyes and smiles to himself. His flames dissipate, leaving burnt patches on the pads of his fingers. "The way things are, huh?" He mumbles to himself. Dabi then gets to his feet and stretches, your eyes trailing his movements. As always, you fear the metal holding his skin together will tear so you hold your breath. He relaxes his body, notices your worry, then reaches out to place his hand on top of your head. You could feel the residual heat from his extinguished flames on your scalp. He lightly ruffles your hair with a chuckle, causing your cheeks to tint to a dark pink.

When Dabi pulls away, you notice him going back inside and headings towards your front door. "You're leaving already? It's barely been an hour." Your heart ached. You hated when Dabi left. You wanted to spend every moment with him.

"I'm sure the League is wondering where I am. Sometimes, those idiots can't function without me. I'd hate to keep them waiting." He pauses his steps to look back at you over his shoulder. "It's been fun, [Name]. It always is with you." He grins, the metal rings on his face shifting with his smile.

"When will I see you again?" You desperately ask, your eyes watering. You were always worried sick about Dabi and his dangerous occupation.

"Who knows? Could be tomorrow. Could be days. Could be weeks." He shrugs, looking off into space. "Who really knows? Perhaps this may be the last time." With that final question, he begins putting his boots on.

Before you could process your own thoughts, you were already up on your feet and facing Dabi from outside. Your heart was racing in your chest. "Please stay. I don't want you to go."

Dabi looks back at you once again, a serious expression dawned on his face. "That's no good, [Name]." He kicks his toes against the floor once his boots are on to make sure his shoes are secure. "I don't want to impose."

"I don't care, Dabi." You practically plead. You hated the periods of time when he was gone for days on end.

"[Name]. Two young adults under one roof? A villain and a hero, at that." His condescending eyes pierce through you. "We're not a couple."

Dabi's words sting more than you expected. He was right. You couldn't argue with that logic. However, that didn't stop your heart from aching. "You're right. I don't know what I was thinking." You lower your head to hide any tears that are on the verge of spilling from your eyes. "Goodnight, Da–"

You had barely looked up when Dabi's incredible speed allowed him to move in front of you in the blink of an eye. The two of you make eye contact for a split second before Dabi ducked to the ground. With a quick spin on his foot, he uses his other leg to sweep you off the ground. You stumbled backwards, the railing of the balcony digging into the small of your back.

You reach out to your best friend, but your fingers just dig into nothingness. He stares down at your efforts so intensely. A voice cursed you in your head. It sounded like All Might. You couldn't believe it had come to you being so easily ambushed by a villain while you're a top hero teacher at UA. Your feelings for Dabi were so strong that he was able to erase all sense of combat, all sense of loyalty, all sense of responsibility. What would your fellow heroes think of this? What would your students think of this?

The momentum causes your body to start tilting backwards. Your feet were no longer on the ground. The dim stars of the night sky were the only things were looking at as you began to fall from the great height.

Your eyes widen as images flash across your mind. All these mental pictures put you in a frenzy, but also gave you some levels of euphoria.

So this is what you see when you're in the midst of peril.

Suddenly, your world halts its spinning. You're suspended in mid-air, your body tilted back over the railing like a seesaw. You muster up your core strength to lift your head to see what could have prevented your fall.

Your eyes lock with Dabi's as he hovers closely above you. He has your collar bunched up in his fist. That is what is tethering you from falling. His eyes are steady, indicating how calm & collected he was. You, however, could feel your heart pounding and your lip quivering. You are so sure you looked like you were in complete & utter terror.

"Be careful where you stand, [Name]. You might fall." Dabi says in a mischievous tone as he sports a sneer.

You were flooded with confusion and shock. "B-...But, you–"

"What did you see?" Dabi interjects.

"Huh?" You ask while he still has his tight grip on your top.

"When your life flashes before your eyes. What clarity were you given?" He leans a bit closer to you. He's so close you could feel his breath running across your cheeks. He still had that evil grin on his face. "Tell me what you saw."

The two of you stared at each other in this odd position for...God knows how long. All you could really hear was the distant hum of cars and the booming of your heartbeat in your ears. Dabi literally had you, a recognized hero, wrapped around his finger. You had no choice. Your lips part as you answer in a level just above a whisper.

"You..."

You manage to force out of your mouth the answer you had shoved down deep inside for so long.

"I saw you, Dabi."

Dabi still has a smile on his face, but his previously devilish smirk had transformed into a more tender smile. Without taking his eyes off yours, he brings you back to your feet with one yank towards him. You were still in shock so you accidentally stumble forward against his chest. But that was okay. He was going to bring you closer anyways. His hands rest on your back to hold you to him.

"There. Honesty isn't so hard, [Name], now is it?" He finally spoke. You could feel his fingers caress your back by trailing your spine, leaving you in satisfying shivers. "You've always been someone who hides your feelings, especially when it came to feelings about me. Tonight, when you were begging me to stay, I had a glimmer of hope that you would finally be honest with how you feel. But you gave up so easily."

You clutch onto Dabi's loose white shirt. You held on tight, like one of you was about to fall again. "You're cruel, Dabi. You're so cruel." Water blurs your vision as fat tears clinged to your eyelashes.

"I know." Dabi reaches up to keep your hair out of your eyes. "I'm a cruel villain. And you fell in love with me."

You burrow your face into his chest, refusing to look up at him. "I can't believe I love you."

Dabi snickers before planting a light kiss on the top of your head. "I can't believe it, either. I also can't believe I fell so hard for a hero. The League would slaughter me."

"I would lose my job and my title."

"Well, at least you'd still be alive."

"You won't get killed, Dabi. Not while I'm around. You just need to stick with me." You inhale Dabi's familiar scent.

"It wouldn't be so bad." You find yourself looking up at Dabi since his hand is cupping your face. He's still sporting that cheeky grin. "At least I'd get to see your face flash before my eyes."

Dabi pulls you closer and leans down to meet you halfway. You always wondered what kissing him would be like. You always hypothesized that it would be coarse because of his scars and dangerous because of the metal rings holding him together. But you were wrong. It was all perfect.

When you pull away, you smile through your tears as Dabi rests his forehead against yours. "Idiot. I'd much rather have you here than just imagine you."
