Headcanons for Alister... they actually haven't changed much since I first played ACiT tbh. The Azimuths are (were) a very highly regarded family. Alister's grandmother was a war hero in the Great War, and his mom was a martyr in a much smaller conflict. He had three sisters, all of whom became famous in their own right. One of them was the architect of the Court of Azimuth, it was named after their grandmother. They're all dead now of course.
Relationship status with Kaden: it's complicated. Kaden is not an easy man to love, but Alister was hopelessly attached... cue breakups that would never stick and perpetual frustration. Kaden falling in love with the woman who would eventually be Ratchet's mother was the best thing to happen to their relationship, to be honest.
Speaking of Ratchet, he would have been raised partly by Alister had things gone differently. He'd have likely decided that Alister was "Dad", biological parentage be damned... Kaden's not really father of the year material.
