A good style seal can affect the beauty of your calligraphy. Your friend is a good friend and the seal is meaningful to you. I am sorry my honesty.

Chiyo-san should be able to give you a better answer but as far as I understand...

命 means "life"

生 means "live" (as in being alive) as well as "life" and "birth"

暮 means "live" (as in living out your life; I don't think there is an exact English word for it)

住 means "reside" (for which we usually said "live" in English)
