There exists a pic of a primal mass spawning off the original inksplot characters.

Clark Ashton Smith wrote a story about a god or primal mass called "Ubbo-Sathla" that spawned all earthly life from its ceaseless slough. Perhaps the mass of ink in this pic was the Ubbo-Sathla of toons !
